yeah most people knew going in that Clottey was going to be a defensive fighter just not that defensive the whole fight, maybe a punch output of 15 more punches a round would have made for a better fight. The problem with Clottey is he has a great defensive shell but he doesn't have the knockout power to back it up like arthur abraham. It all comes down to pride, he was scared of going out like Diaz,DLH,Hatton,Cotto. It didn't seem to make a difference, everytime Pac fights someone, they get embarassed. Whey are you guys bickering this much, agree to disagree. I think its impossible on this forum to have a decent banter without it turning into 5th grade recess.
Maybe, just maybe, Pacquiao's relentless assault, not giving him space to counter a lot because the punches were so fast and from all angle, had to do something about his low output?
That fight looked fixed. I won't venture as far to say that it was, but Clottey did not look himself. Pac was extremely hittable and Clottey REFUSED to let his hands go. Clottey could have been totally drained, but at this point who wants to see him fight any significant opponent at WW? He needs to go up in weight or retire.
Not another one. Resist whatever temptation is leading to become another *******. Yall are like robots spewing that same **** over and over. Oh and it was good performance, not great.
You got your panties in a bunch because of that? You feel like correcting every so called "over-evaluation" of every fighter? Obsessed much? I bet you don't feel like correcting yourself for your own "over-evaluations". You failed to read this post above yours?
I can see the logic in that. Maybe I could agree if Pac wasn't so hittable and/or if Clottey was caught with a few solid shots to put him into "survive" mode. Clottey just looked either exhausted or unwilling to throw. I give Pac credit, but I want to see him bust up a prime non Top Rank fighter. At this point I just feel there is too much politics going on over there. Williams Bradley Alexander Mayweather
The list made me chuckle a bit. A few years back, the list of fighters MP was accused of steering away from were Soto Diaz Guzman Valero
I didn't accuse Pac of steering away from them. I said I want to see him face some prime guys not in the Top Rank stable. No more. No less.
He's probably 1 year from retiring, he's already a Filipino billionaire, he's had a full, satisfying career, and he's got it all. He's already had losses on his record. KTFO losses too. There is nothing else that would make him be scared of fighting, and maybe losing to Mayweather. He's not protecting a zero loss on his record. And his main objective has always been to give an entertaining fight that the paying fans will like. He's said that many times before. Hew's only afraid of his opponent or himself getting seriously hurt, or for the fans to boo his performance. Not winning at all costs. A win is just a bonus.
I think the only thing he has to fear is being embarrassed. Much like Leonard/Duran. That is why he didn't take the Mayweather fight pre-election. His main objective is money like all other fighters. If it wasn't his DLH and Hatton fights would not have been on the rocks for percentage points of purse. FMJ doesn't protect his 0 other than preparing. He just wants to lose it under fair circumstances.
I assure you that he would have still been living like a multi millionaire even if he retired after the Morales 3 fight. He really doesnt need more money right now to live like a king. But once negotiations start, the competitive juices to get the better end of the deal will flow. His family lived off that skill as a young kid. He and his mother were the only ones feeding the family, they were so poor. They repacked spices and other kitchen stuff for profit. Very business minded. I'm sure that the only people in the Philippines that get disappointed with a Pac loss (or non-KO win) are the bettors. Not Pac himself. Boxing fans here in the Philippines love to see a glorious, beautifully fought loss, rather than an uninspiring win. That applies to all fighters that they watch, from all over the world.
