at the end of the day, Diaconu's own promoter conceeded that Dawson was not afraid of fighting Diaconu.

    It is what it is

Don't put it like you want it,the fight would have been at least on donkingtv.com and Dawson should outbox him very wide,Diaconu would need a KO anyway so it wouldn't matter anyways.
And yes Diaconu pulled out and then Dawson tryed to get his mandatory position removed about 100 times, said and signed agreements he will fight him about 100 times until eventually he had to give the belt up.
And ''favoritism for the national hero''?:patsch :verysad

Oh yeah, how about Castillo vs Floyd I?
Or how about when my boy Dorin whooped on Spadafora in his own town and the judges gave it a draw?

You made it sound like the US judges are the most fair in the world previously.Anyway it would never happen, either Diaconu KOs him or Dawson wins a decision pretty wide, don't think they would robb him

I've no problem whatsoever with Dawson choosing to fight Tarver over Diaconu. Dawson is still learning as a fighter and he'll learn from Tarver just as he learned from Johnson. Diaconu is still young and hungry and will hopefully be around for a while. Dawson and him have plenty of time to fight, whereas Tarver won't have a great deal longer left in the game. This is Dawsons chance to beat an estabished name and seasoned vet and learn from the experience.

I know Dan Rafael has ridiculed the prospect of a Dawson/Diaconu fight, with words to the effect of `who cares?`

Again, we see another example of an American fighter avoiding (not through fear I hasten to add) a valid European challenger to make money against an American.

Not that I blame them for doing this, but Calzaghe had a point when he described the American scene - at least around and about that weight-division - as a `clique`.

Diaconu is still an untested overrated hypejob to me. I have seen him against Rico Hoye and Chris Henry, the latter gave hime some problems and to me he is not in Dawson's class. If I was Dawson I would not bother fighting him either. Who did he beat to get the WBC No1 spot, Rico Hoye well Hellloooo Clinton Woods already dismantled him before. Dawson can fight Diaconu later after he has some meaningful wins. After Dawson schools Tarver he should be looking for the winner of Jones/Calzaghe or a rematch with Glen Johnson.

The Hoye fight was an eliminator so he became the mandatory challenger so he should have gotten a shot.Dawson didn't give it to him.Period
