he would knock wladimir out, have a tough fight with vitali that he wins either by tko or decision, and lay absolute waste to the rest of the heavyweight division

Prime Mike would torture Wlad and Vitali. Prime Mike beats Lennox too.

It's funny that you mentioned timing. You obviously know something about boxing as well noting the difference between an actual traditional inside fighter and Tyson, noting the "take off" and "landing" stages of his style, and the weakness for Tyson it presents and opportunity for Klitschko it presents.

(Why it was funny you mentioned timing)After I made my first post I was just talking to my girlfriend about the match-up(She's as big a boxing fan as I am) and I was saying that the key to victory for either Klitschko would be timing Tyson on the way in. The problem I was envisioning for the Klitschko's was Tyson controlling the range by rushing in, walking them down, and really being effective inside especially if he got either Klitschko on the ropes which Tyson used to do well against big and tall opponents. This would present a problem for either Klitschko because it would take away their range, thus also taking their power. With taller longer armed guys the power is at the end of the punch away from their body as opposed to a tight compact fighter like Tyson who gathers more of his strength at the core. So, to negate that tactic from Tyson, I was saying they would have to time his rhythm just right to create the inches of space to get a good extended punch on him as he lunged in because if either of them were trying to swing close to the body on the inside their power would be dwarfed and they would in turn be left victims to one of Tyson's looping hooks.

    Very keen insight there.:good

This is a failure of gigantic proportions. Tyson had speed. Speed would be the difference with prime Mike. Tyson didn't lunge in a sense they it made him vulnerable.

Tyson walked in on you it bobbed and weaved his way in. Yes, Tyson was a very good inside fighter, he just wasn't FT doing it. Buster had a variety of punches be could throw, Vitali didn't. Buster had motivation too.

Byrd was able to get inside on Vitali, and have success. Byrd threw wild punches, stayed in front of vitali using his good defense and used his speed to his advantage. He stayed in front of Vitali until he quit-some say injury, I still don't know to this day.

Odd that this topic has never come up before !

    :rofl :rofl :rofl

    But what the heck:

I think a 1986 Tyson beats any man standing in front of him.

That said, the only two fighters I could see POSSIBLY giving him trouble are Ali and Wlad. - both because of their incredible defense.

Still, Wlad would likely be too slow, and actually too tall. - A tall fighter's only advantage is reach, and Mike was the ultimate inside fighter, so that goes out the window. In all other respects, a tall fighter is at a disadvantage: Slower movement, less efficient aerobic system, and the difficulty in properly throwing a punch at a downward angle.

As for Ali, I've always seen tyson as a stronger, faster version of Frazier. So .....

Speed is duly noted but if the guy isn't standing there when the punch reaches it's destination, ya know like if you timed his punches right and make him miss(which both Klitschko's are good at doing), that leaves him open for a big counter punch, especially if you have good footwork like Wlad and can create the space to land a good extended punch. That's the point being made as far as I can tell, that the timing of either Klitschko to control the space/range, thus putting an exclamation point on the reach advantage, would be the key to beating Tyson for either Klitschko.

Yes, Tyson was a very good inside fighter but history does show that he always had a problem with bigger guys with long reaches which points directly to an advantage for either Klitschko there. As far as variety of punches goes, the only punch missing from the Klitschko's catalog is the upper-cut. They both have good jabs, hooks, straights, and crosses, but there is a glaring absence of upper-cuts there. That would be a problem against a prime Tyson because his whole career that's been a hard punch for him to avoid in a lot of situations, especially a counter upper-cut inside like we saw Lennox Lewis destroy him with(along with every other punch in the bag, but this was admittedly a wilted and broken Mike Tyson).

DUDE! You're seriously going to bring up Chris Byrd? That guy fought a wild unorthodox style utilizing unbalanced odd angles which is why he was able to land at all. In every match against a Klitschko that guy was dominated, and he was fortunate that Vitali had a legitimate injury that stopped their first fight. How he fits into a comparison to Tyson at all is beyond me. I clearly see how you tried to make the connection but it's seriously just not there bro. BTW it was a torn rotator cuff that he suffered in that fight causing him to quit.

Folks seem to forget that Tyson still had his weaknesses and didn't completely roll over ever person he ever fought. He went the distance plenty of times and struggled to do so with bigger guys, even in his prime. He never had a granite chin like plenty of fighters before and after him, even in his prime. He was susceptible to an upper-cut, even in his prime. His style WAS beatable just like every boxer before and after him, even in his prime. He wasn't some mythical creature with no weaknesses, completely unbeatable, and unable to be out boxed or simply put down on the mat by another fighter with power. He was one of the greats of all time in his prime, but even the all time greats lost at some point, even in their prime.

Vitali would be too slow, Wlad is a lot quicker and smoother and would be able to catch Tyson. His advantage is far more than reach as well. Their height and sheer size are massive advantages in the case of fighting Tyson. Anyone who has ever watched both brothers fight has to know that they would use those long arms and bigger frames to wrap up Tyson and force a break, giving them the range advantage to keep him at the end of a jab. From there is comes down to "Can he get inside that jab and land meaningful punches without getting tied up again?" and that's a tough one to call. If you look at his track record even in his prime, it would be a great challenge for him, just as it would be a great challenge for either Klitschko to keep him on the other end of their long jabs.

You also have to keep in mind that both Klitschko's have extremely great conditioning regardless of size. Both can work at a rapid pace for 12 rounds. Wlad is very swift and exceptionally quick for his size, and both have exceptional footwork at their size too. They are above all else VERY ACCURATE punchers. Most guys at their height ARE rather uncoordinated, ARE very slow, DON'T have very great conditioning because of their size, are not nearly as accurate, and indeed would be at every disadvantage you mentioned rather intelligently. But, these two are a very special breed.

The speed is there in the case of Wlad and Vitali can surprise you from time to time with his even though he is noticeably slower than Wlad, both do have crazy conditioning and stamina, both are rather well coordinated for their size, both ARE very accurate punchers who are USED to punching downwards at opponents, and above all both are highly intelligent very technically sound BOXERS, not punchers like Tyson was. He was damn near out-boxed on a couple occasions during his prime, and both Klitschko's have the tools to potentially have out-boxed a prime Tyson, especially considering their gifts matched against his weaknesses that play right into their strengths.

I love Mike Tyson, always have and always will. In just about any other match-up I would probably give him the edge. However, the stylistic differences here and size disparity, I think, put him at a grave disadvantage. This is not to say that the Klitschko's have nothing to fear from Tyson. He would pose a bigger challenge to either of them than anyone they have ever faced. But, I also believe that the Klitschko brothers are both MENTALLY tougher than Tyson ever was and that-that would make a big difference in a fight between them. Tyson had such a mystique around him in his prime, he had fights won well before he even got in the ring. People were genuinely scared of him and scared to fight him. He was very intimidating to people and they were so scared before they got in the ring, these guys often times folded like they were in an origami class. The guys that never were intimidated by him or scared of him kicked his ass(Buster Douglas, Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis). I think that would have a major effect in this fight, I don't think either of them would be intimidated by him or scared at all which would give THEM a mental edge, especially if this fight went into deep water.

Some do not know how really good the Klitschkos really are.................out of bias and ignorance.................Klitschkos by knockout!!!!!!!

  11. Absolutely yes! All these guys living off of their height would be killed.

  12. Not too big for him. Tyson beat Sammy Scaff in round one who was 6'6 and 260 pounds.

  13. Wlad is cautious against Eddie Chambers,he would **** his pants in front of Mike I think. And remember that Mike KO'd guys as big as Klitschko in his career. Vitali is the harder fight but Wlad is an easy KO in 1 or 2.

"Prime" Tyson could have possibly ruled in any division. It just depends if he was able to work his game on the "greats" of each era or if they were able to work theirs.

The only trouble with prime Tyson going forward in time is if he could do it so could Buster Douglas.:lol:
