i believe manny steward would be the best coach for khan

I think he is with the best coach he can get right now.
Roach is a smart tactician who seems to have a knack of working on the correct gameplan for fights. In many instances if Khan had stuck more to his strengths and kept to the game plan he would have taken less big hits.
Too much machismo at times trying to trade and stand in front of maidana.

Overall it is a big improvement now on what he was doing a few years ago.
With Manny I see him getting the benefits you mentioned but not getting the gameplan to win the fight.

 

i would agree that with khans height range jab coupled with babd balance and footwork he would benefit froma few sessions with steward. khan needs a basis in fundamentals of boxing (correct lateral movement, not coming sraight back, not falling over yourself and throwing wild flurriesd instead of solid compact combinations) to help with his balance. While Roach is a tacticall genius i think manny would be very good just at getting khan back to doing the basics correctly then he could go back with roach and benefit from those fundamentals and a great gameplan. i think its too late to try and start teaching him the shoulder roll with mayweather. you need to start boxing young to master such a difficult technique and even then you have to have an innate sense of timing and range to pull it of like toney, locche or mayweather.

 

I don't think so. Manny is good with tall boxers with a jab as everybody goes on about, so on the face of it he would seem ideal, but I'm not sure. I think its a different world comparing huge heavyweights like Wlad and Lennox with a junior welterweight. Khan's big but not that big relatively, and he doesn't have the same power to discourage foes. Wlad and Lennox are devastating hitters, Khan is not. It's not so simple to just fight tall for Khan and expect world class fighters not to get near him and put leather on his chin.

 

So to summarise: After an incredibly successful amateur career and a blossoming pro-career you think Amir Khan should go to work with Manny Steward so he can learn some basics. But it's too late for him to go and learn some 'advanced' stuff, at the age of 24. Seriously?

Let's face it, if he doesn't know the basics after 2 years with Roach and 6 years as a pro he's never going to work them out.

you cant seriously tell me he doesnt have improving to do. manny is wicked at sorting out balance issues and khan has bad balance? khan is still young, he can shore that **** up.

 

Khan is just fine with Roache.

 

You're right I can't tell you there's no room for improvement. However I can tell you, without any doubt in my mind, that he has absolutely no need to go and see Steward to learn some 'basics'.

 

most great boxers had great basics and developed them. Good balance is a basic must for boxing. Steward is very good at teaching balance. I think it would make khan a better boxer. im not saying roach isnt good, im saying khan could use some help to tighten up his skills to make him even better than he already is.
