Berto is right, he stayed down. Berto hits pretty damn hard and really got some leverage on that right hand that cleanly hit Ortiz. It was the best load-up **** his legs could offer after seemingly getting more and more exhausted and Ortiz was wide up and did not see the punch at all. After Ortiz got hit by the left hook he should've had time to react to Mayweather's right hand but didn't. Maybe he was out after Floyd's left hook, but I don't think so. I definitely think he could've gotten up at the least and I understand Berto's suspicion.

All that smiling about the fight kinda makes you think twice about it. But then again, He could've smiled because he got knocked out after delivering an illegal move.

    Exactly.

I said right after the fight that something seemed very fishy.

Mayweather keeps his title. Arum keeps the Pac-PBF fight as a possibility, & the bookies make a killing. Plus, Floyd ups his "bad boy" image one more notch. Everybody wins.

This would also explain Ortiz's flagrant head-butt. It was all theatre.

I for one dont believe ortiz was that badly hurt from those shots. I think he gambled and stayed down hoping to get a DQ win

If it had been scripted, those guys and the referee are some serious oscar candidates! The amount of choreography involved in that sequence of events, to have it play out the way it did, would've required some real acting skills. I don't think either fighter can be considered the sharpest knife in the drawer, so no...not scripted.

This statement alone should diminish the author's credibility quite a bit IMO.

I thought it was scripted from the beginning, and I certainly wasn't looking for that...Ortiz was far too happy about the outcome IMO. He seemed like a guy who was pleased with his "performance".

EDIT* I wouldn't put money on it though...

I must admit this was my first response after seeing that fight. Think about it for a second. Ortiz gets a huge payday while still saving some face by getting "sucker punched". Floyd gets a KO while at the same time adding a huge boost in his infamy, which he himself admits is a large factor in his ticket selling power. And the ref really seemed to be deliberately looking away from what was happening at that moment.

After watching this over a couple times, there isn't quite enough to convince me it was scripted because the punches and determination looked legit throughout the fight. But I can't think of any better outcome for that fight in terms of strictly money down the road for Floyd. Obviously for Ortiz a win would be better, but if Floyd comes to you at this young stage in your carrier when you have no real claim at a shot and offers you that kind of money for an easy night while still keeping face... Well in a sometimes shady run sport with a proven track record, it should at least get you asking the question.
