There is some doubt as to how many rounds the fight was originally scheduled for , some say 10 ,some say 20.Johnson hurt his arm in a match against a wrestler prior to this fight and broke the tibia bone in the third round of the fight , therafter he fought one handed ,Jim Johnson couldnt do much with even a one handed Jack ,and the action was slow and boring,Battling Jim was ineffectual ,Jack stalling ,the crowd booed lustily.
If the fight was originally down as a 20 rounder, Jack Johnson should have lost the title, imo.

    Marvin Johnson stunk!

No, not because he was a bad fighter, he literally stunk, because he refused to have a shower from the moment he began training for a fight, until the fight was over!:-(

Funny enough just watched Colin Jones vs Milt McCrory 1 this morning. The commentator mentioned that Jones hadn't showered since Tuesday. The fight was on the Saturday.

He did not have a PhD. He had a business administration degree from a community college. Big difference.

He died either from alcohol poisoning or some drunken accident. I believe his epitaph went something like this...

    "O'er thrown by punch
    But not by fist
    He died an unbeaten pugilist."

    I'll never forget that one.

Pernell 'Sweet Pea' Whitaker, gets his nickname from when an embroiderer of his gown, misheard that Pernell was shortened to Pete, so instead of 'Sweet' Pete Whitaker, we got Pernell 'Sweet Pea' Whitaker.
