I was stationed in Mainz with the 8th Infantry Div. [major-Gen. John R.D. Cleland CMDR] late Sept, '75 to early May '79 ("very long tour..."). Helmut Graff was our Club president with Wilfred Reisner our Coach. The BK Box Club situated out of Bad Kreuznach. Both our Admin. "really good guys"! I went to them after first going to the Mainz team [Olympian Wolfgang Schmidt top there.....]. Fritz Lemke ["late" : (] brought me in. Then I wound up bringing a few of my ARMY friends in Jerry (Red) Wiles FeatherWt the most prominent. Also: MiddleWt. Michael Mills. And, FlyWt. Roy Armour (Youngstown, Ohio). Hanno Broo was my "very good friendship" on Mainz Club. Here's the people I faced while with BK: Dilbez (Turk), [sorry I -destroyed- you so "wicked", Dilbez....all I knew was hurt, destroy if-I-could. If I had it to over..I'd "be your friend"/after all we -ALL- were "hero's" only boxing mostly OUR OWN COST!], RUDIGER HELD my best ever match! KLAUS SCHREINER -CLS- & he twice fought my good friend ERWIN THIBUS. KLAUS HERMAN; PETER SCHMIDT ["stepped up" 1 Wt. for me. Peter a "good chap". We "draw" but.....I thought he won, really!]["Thanks Peter.." for the compliment after the Held match! Yeah....I was "so hot...." that one! Held a "hard man"! I have good memories with Rudiger all- together!]. Then, March/ '78 in Denmark and GUNNAR FRANDSEN my opp. Again, one of the few times my opp "step-up" in Wt. we boxed at 147. Gunnar #4 rated LIGHTWELTERWEIGHT a.t.t. [I was V Corp/Army light-welter champ..but wind up settling at 156lbs. I think that Gunnar went there, too..]\\ -and- ANDY NADER, of BONN was an opponent too. We become "friendship" was able to stay in-touch years-years. & see him >twice< in USA. Both times with his brother-in-law, Volker, a Police Officer. I also fought, once, against a ARMY Squad vs boxer from New Mexico name MARK GARCIA. At Garcia's base at Fulda. Klaus S. we fought at 165lb. Garcia at 139.Nader at 147 (my natural), the others except Frandsen, &Schmidt.....at 156lb. What, I went- up to 156 for the Rheinland championships. Wind-up staying there though..I always could make welter limits easily. Then & now. I could make Lightwelter if I needed only, can not maintain that Wt. Day-after-Day. I have Klaus S., Gunnar and Rudiger in my "top I've faced" of my 40 amateur (along with a few other names from Ne G.G.) Sure would like to have a RADAR where all the CHAPS went off to! I'm thinking "maybe" someone is Executive working for Henry Maske or something, these days! : ) & I am doing "mini-marts"/pizza business in Connecticut! Anyone know anything about anyone I have mentioned here??
