I bumped into Darren barker this afternoon, what a nice bloke.

barker suprised so many people with his performance last week vs martinez who is generally recognised as the number 3 in the pound for pound rankings.

i hope he doesnt go straight to chavez as he now can pick and choose fights better because his stock went up so much in his last fight.

andy lee would be a good fight or vera both are names who barker could fight either here or in the states

im not sure that 2 title fights in a row is good for barkers career especially as he would need to knock chavez to win.

he got massive respect for his last fight so a couple of wins against good but lesser fighters will bulid him up more and make him better for a title chnace next year etc.

lee , vera , rubio , manfredo jnr would all be good choices as he could fight them in the states and get even more exposure

 

Darren seems a nice lad.

 

Chavez is bigger than all four of those guys. Manfredo will have just lost to Chavez too. Rubio's pretty decent but has no name to speak of. Vera just lost to Lee.

It's silly to wait around. If he can get the Chavez fight he should.

 

i just think that if a chavez fight is made then it will be in mexico where barker will find it hard to win.

he should get a few warm up wins then go for pirog or geale

 

But why does he need warm-ups beyond the normal for a comeback bout?

One fight against a decent, ranked opponent and then go for a solid MW contender or a champion. No point waiting around.

 

Particularly with all the time off with injury, I would be surprised if Barker wanted warmups, to be honest. I think he should try to get straight in with a beltholder. Hear what you're saying about Mexico decisions - but he might think he won't need the judges. I'd like him to take a fight like that next, not do a few warmups, lose the momentum and turn 30 in the meantime. The Martinez fight suggested that he has the measure of the other champions.

 

I just don't see the lack of ambition. He didn't show himself up against the best MW in the world, he's got a promoter who believes in him, and there are plenty of attractive fights out there.

 

Barker will completely outbox Chavez Jr, leaving no chance of Chavez getting the decision..even if it is in Mexico.
