I can never understand hating Ali

You'll find people who will stoop to pure idiocy defending that scumbag.

I've thrown Ali's remarks out before on this forum and got the same kind of stuff.
Ali also made guest appearances at Ku Klux Klan rallies egging them on. The Klan did lynch Blacks for race mixing- hung them from trees and burned them alive.
Ali appeared as a "friend" of the Klan and told them to keep up the good work.


The defenses come in two versions:

1. Ali did go through a radical stage where he incited people to kill, but he has since changed his mind.

2. Ali lied so much that you can't believe any of it.

If I had a hero and had to use either of the above defenses for him, I'd get another hero.

Your 2 versions are a joke..if there is any truth to this then prove it, or atleast come up with your OWN excuses why your a hater!!

Fasthands was right. He did not say that Ali was remotely as bad as the Nazis, just that his comments were reminiscent o the vicious, violence endorsing hate that came out of Nazi Germany. I am Jewish & my Dad lost much of his family, including his parents, when a small boy. One should draw atention to terrible hate & advocating the murder of innocents.

If ali ever recanted, I am open to it. But I se him as deeply uninetgrated as a personality-child like & kind in some ways, but never facing his dark side or atoning for some of the harm he caused. Which means acknowledging vicious motivations, not making false excuses like "I just did it to promote the fights". There were many ways to do so absent causing such pain & encouraging hate, mockery & racism in others.

You haven't interpreted my post as it was intended. I did not compare Ali's actions to those of the Nazis - I stated that the words he used in this interview were reminiscent of the vile propaganda spewed out in Nazi Germany in the 1930s.

Judging by this thread and the one you started about Joe Frazier it comes across clearly to me that you have come on this board with a pro Ali anti Frazier agenda and don't appear to like it when somebody has an opinion that differs to your own.

 

Muhammed Ali is a sad case. He has some real screwed up ideas about people and race - but I don't hold that against him. Because Muhammed Ali long ago went beyond the ability to be helped after people like Don King and the Black Muslims got hold of him and warped his soul.

Muhammed Ali was the human equivalent of an industrial machine tool - the type of tool you keep using 24/7/365 until it breaks - and then you trash it without a second thought.

His stance against the Vietnam war is what made so many hate him. Of course, much of that hate comes from chickenhawk types who never did any fighting themselves. There was also the allegation that he is a racist who hates whites and Jews.
