A priori Liam Smith will be free to face whoever he wants. They could make a catchweight of 164 as GGG struggles to make middleweight.
From this point on, Golovkin will fight only if he is paid very good money. That's why he vacated his belts, fighting his mandatories wouldn't make good profit, because they are unknown fighters. I don't think Liam Smith would generate revenue either. Golovkin might fight Floyd or Pacquiao in an exhibition match.
Sky Sports would promote it very well They could fill out a 20,000 seat capacity arena like Manchester easily. Wembley not so such, but probably Anfield no problem.
@UniversalPart Maybe. It's said there were 18,000 people in the arena for Smith vs Eubank Jr fight. But does it mean they will offer Golovkin a good salary?
I agree on your first point, Golovkin is done and is only interested in $$$. However, the Liam Smith fight would sell very well in the UK on PPV + would bring in considerable gate revenues as well.
Golovkin is pretty well-known in the UK and would get a good amount of money for fighting Smith. No way he gets less than 50%.
GGG is an ATG and still a huge name. If it happens, it's probably both of their last (big) fight and a good way to cash out.
I think people have realized that he might be done with the sport. Until recently, it still looked like Golovkin was interested in being the best Middleweight in the world. Now he has given up his belts and we haven“t heard nothing from him.
