I can teach you how to box but I can't teach you to be a boxer.

"I can teach you how to box but I can't teach you to be a boxer". Just one of the many things I always tell my new boxing students. "I have forgotten more than you will ever know about boxing". One of my favorite sayings to the new smart ass students. "You are trying to kill a fly with a baseball bat". for those students that try to knock their opponent out with every punch. I should write a book.

I've actually killed a fly with a garden cane before, your logic is invalid.

If you get smart asses who think they know it, do you ever put them in the ring to spar early on, just to knock some sense into them?

The smart asses usually are the ones who insist on sparring right away. I am all to happy to oblige them. I especially like the MMA and UFC fighters. They never do well. The college football players are a hoot to watch too.

When i train a boxer they usually want to punch all they can and wild without listening and wanting to learn, so i give them a small ax and show them the biggest tree i find, and thell them to chop the three one time only wit full force, and the tree ofcourse wount fall down with one hard ax punch,so they get where im going. with the right technique, pation, and more then one punch, the tree will fall:D

 I have a bantam weight Victor Bravo. He is the boxer in my avatar. He is an 8 time national and Jr Olympic champion. He is fast as hell. I like to put my bigger guys in with him and watch them try to hit him. They try to knock him out with every punch but they are swinging at air. :rofl
