I can teach you how to box but I can't teach you to be a boxer.

I nicked the song from Mosley's camp for a while

    Concrete jungle, concrete jungle

I say Boxing you say Tribe

    Boxing

    Tribe!

    Boxing

    Tribe!

    Boxing Boxing

    Tribe Tribe!

    If he's taller and longer

    It don't matter!

    If he's quicker and faster

    It don't matter!

    If he's bigger and stronger

    It don't matter!

And if he's never lost a bout?

GLOVE HIM UP GLOVE HIM UP!

There has been over 5000 boxers who have come and gone from our gym over the past 26 years. Many had true talent and were gifted athletes. Only a very few had a boxers attitude and aptitude. We tell them to be a boxers one has to "Eat sleep and crap boxing". Boxing is a sport but one does not PLAY boxing. One has to live it and want it more than anything.

I hear you. I am trying to get down in weight to get out of the super heavy class. I don't want to win a belt by walk over and there are very few super heavy weights in the masters so that could happen.

I always tell kids that I am helping, especially during sparring, to Trust the Science. They will run into roadblocks in opponents that aim to shake their confidence and make them second guess their training. But Boxing truly is a science, where theories are stated, tested and challenged. Over time, certain techniques have been proven to work in specific situations a large percentage of the time. These Techniques have been proven despite immense scrutiny in a competitive and dangerous field. It is because of this, that the boxer must, above all else, trust the science. The numbers work. The equations supply accurate results when the variables are understood.

My instructor used to tell me "you can either hurt in here or get hurt out there" and nod towards the door.

That phrase always brought me back to focus on the drill at hand.
