Anyone who thinks Kovalev is one dimensional please step up and embarrass yourselves. He actually is good at evaluating his opponent in the ring, and has great timing and accuracy.

    You think Silakh was stationary:huh

Also, you may want to consider the possibility that it is not Kovalev's opponents actually being station but rather Kovalev effectively cutting off the ring thus forcing them to be stationary.

Campillo is a boxer. Shillakh is a boxer. Cleverly is to some extent, a boxer. Boone was also a tricky boxer-puncher. Caparello is also a boxer.

Every one of them got knocked out in less than 4 rounds. Kovalev will knock Hopkins out in less than 6 rounds. He's fast on his feet and if Hopkins isn't throwing much back, he'll be throwing in combination. One punch will get through and it will retire Hopkins.

Kovalev has plenty of stamina, he has been training for 12 rounds for a long time now. I really like Kovalev's timing. Kovalev's trainer has trained Hopkins in the past, so he will know how to fight Hopkins. Hopkins will first try to step on Kovalev's foot, then hold, headbutt, throw low blows, use his elbows, fall down on the canvas and claim he was fouled, claim an injury like he did against Dawson, etc. I think Kovalev will break Hopkins' arms, ribs and crack his skull whenever his hands come down.................however, Hopkins will probably hire ref Count Dracula to come from Transylvania so he can disqualify Kovalev for hitting Hopkins in the face...................would not surprise me at all....................Hopkins wanted a huge payday for his last fight, Stevenson priced himself out, Stevenson ran from Kovalev, a clear duck, then the lawsuit, the threat of a purse bid which would have made Hopkins fight his mandatory for peanuts or lose his title.

Kovalev’s knockout victory secured a highly anticipated light heavyweight championship unification fight against Bernard Hopkins. Kovalev (25-0-1, 23 KOs) and Hopkins (55-6-2, 32 KOs, 2 NC) have agreed to terms on a deal that’ll pay the legendary Hopkins two-thirds of the available purse money -

Hopkins gets two-thirds of the available purse money..............................

And with "giving Kovalev a serious chance" you mean favoring him to win by KO?

Why should Hopkins be the favorite in this one? Because he upset the odds against Pascal 3½ years back and beat a couple of undeserved beltholders since?
I like Hopkins, and I'm in awe from what he's done. But be real here, Shumenov, Cloud and Murat would all be easy KO victims if they ever fought Kovalev.

Power and work rate alone will never be enough to beat Hopkins. If people are thinking this is a good enough reason to favour Kovalev over Hopkins you DKSAB.

But Kovalev isn't the one dimensional power puncher people make him out to be. He has pretty good footwork and uses it very well to judge distance along with a good stiff jab. He isn't a defensive genius by a long shot with his upright style, but as long as he can control the range he is very effective.

He also doesn't require his feet to always be set when punching which maybe critical in this fight. When chasing an opponent down, if he misses the right hand most fighters have to reset, Kovalev doesn't reset he adapts and throws out of the stance he is in. While not technically correct, it makes him awkward and makes him hard to keep at range when he does this.

The key for Kovalev is how he deals with Hopkins movement and inside game, mid range he has the advantage but from range and in close he maybe out of his depth. He is going to have to be quick to cut off the distance between him nd Hopkins and how he deals with Hopkins when he tries and steps in and clinch and maul will be crucial. If he does nothing on the inside he will allow Hopkins to smother him and control the pace of the fight. If he allows this to happen Hopkins wins.

If Hopkins was a bit younger and hadn't lost so much speed and looked more hittable of late I would be confident of another Hopkins master class as he has the clear style advantage. But I think age will finally catch up with Hopkins in this fight and he'll lose a close decision.

Yawn. Why can't B-Hop just win a fight? he's the only fighter out there who can win a fight 7-5 and have his fans call it a schooling.
