...who thinks Manny Pacquiao is a huge underdog for his fight with Cotto. It is blowing my mind what people are saying about this fight. Pacquiao fans are saying that it will be a cakewalk, and Cotto fans are saying things like "Cotto will shock the world". In other words, both sides think Cotto is the underdog. You've got to be kidding me. Pacquiao should be the underdog, and a huge underdog, at that. The betting odds should be 5-1, if not more. Here is, going against a guy who has fought at welterweight for the vast majority of his career. A guy who is bigger and stronger than him. A guy has has some credible boxing skills. A guy who beat Shane Mosley, and hung in there against Margarito, who is definitely too big for Pac. Cotto beat Shane Mosley, who is almost just as fast and hits harder than Pac. Despite being so-called "damaged goods", Cotto beat a very tough Josh Clottey - who by the way, would also be too big for Pac. Pacquiao won't be able to fight Cotto the same way he fought De La Hoya nor Hatton. Freddie Roach is going to have to come up with a grade A gameplan, and Pac is going have to execute it to near perfection. I think Pacquiao will have to work a lot harder to win than Cotto will. I'm pulling for Pac - behind him 100%, but to think he is the overwhelming favorite is ridiculous, and it will take some of the luster off what a huge accomplishment it would be if he does win. Manny winning would be like the Giants beating the 16-0 Patriots in the Superbowl a few years back. I'll tell you what, though...if he wins, fan or not, it will be a great, great, day for boxing.
I only read the thread title - Pacquiao has proven time & again that he can hang at higher weights, he even looks AT HOME there so enough please with the bull****. I regard this fight as a toss-up personally.
Bet the house on Cotto!!! I know im doing some betting for this fight. I just gotta figure out how. I have never bet online.
An underdog is a person or group in a competition, frequently in electoral politics[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Election"][/ame], sports and creative works, who is popularly expected to lose... So, basically, you don't choose who the underdog is my friend...
Fair point. And going by most peoples views they think Pac man is going to win making him the fave and Cotto the Underdog. Personally i think its a coin toss. I am pretty good with predictions and usually get them either close to or bang on the money, but this one i cant call. I want Cotto to take Pac man out though. I think Roach is doing yet another cherry picking fight as he thinks cotto is not what he used to be. I agree and can see why they took the fight on, but its still very dangerous and one good body shot from cotto could change the whole fight so for me its a 50 50 fight
No my friend, you're not alone. i have cotto winning this fight, hands down. i just think ppl are totally ignoring the fact that cotto is such a tough customer that has been tested time and again, and has come out on top against top WW fighters 100% of the time. i say 100% b/c he totally outboxed margo and made him look like the 1 demensional fighter that he is, for 7 or 8 rds. unfortunalty for cotto, he got fatigued in the later rds (which he ususally does) and got caught clean by "margacheato" and his "cement-dipped" gloves. yes Pac has some speed and crack in his punches, but he is also a predictable fighter. it also doesn't hurt the fact that Pac's camp likes to throw BS in the game, by having his opponents jump through hoops just to fight him. say what you want, but roach knows exactly what he's doing in making fighters sweat down to catch weights. and whats with the whining that he's been doing lately? i'm trying my best to go into this fight neutral as to whom i'm "backing" for this fight, but i swear that day by day, roach is really making it tough for me to do so. i'm sure by fight time, i'll be 100% in favor of cotto, all thanks to freddie. but cotto doesn't need my backing, b/c he has all the tools to get the job done, and dare i say..."comfortably"? the only thing i fear in this fight is "favortism" by Mr. Arum. i can't see the fight being close, but IF it is, i wonder if Bob will instruct the judges to award Pac the winner. its obvious that Pac is the poster boy for top rank at the moment, and bob and cotto have had contract issues in the past, so there's always the possibility. i think i'll keep that in the back of my mind just in case, but i'm willing to go on the record and dare i say it.....COTTO GETS THE STOPPAGE!
I felt this same way before the Oscar and Hatton fights. No longer. I still believe that Cotto is going to win, but I expect to be proven wrong (again).
He has fought once at 140 against a Hatton who literally threw his face into Pac's fist in an attempt to dislodge his own head, and once at 147 against an Oscar who looked like he'd been recently embalmed. Neither of these are proof of his ability to hang with the best at 147. Much like Floyd he has yet to fight a REAL welterweight and until he does it's impossible to say how he will handle it. His last two fights were circus acts. I'm looking forward to seeing how he handles a real welterweight, because we know next to nothing about his ability to fight about 140, or really even above 135.
i think Cotto can beat Manny but i also thought manny would lose to both ODLH and Hatton, shows how much i know
Dude, when was the last time Pac was in trouble? Pac hasnt lost a round in a long time. Hard to go against that.
I think pac will win...but he lost plenty of rounds against a much smaller marquez...u must be thinking of PBF...he never loses rds
Do you think Cotto would've lost a round to David Diaz, Hatton or the skeleton of Delahoya? Doubt it. Do you think if Pac fought Mosley, Margo or Clottey that he would win every round?
I don't think Roach views this as "easy". Don't forget, Arum has ALOT to do with this - the fight made alot of financial sense. Berto would have been a cherry pick, this isn't. I think Roach knows that. But I go with the 50/50 fight and Pac is only the betting fave because he has a swarming fanbase that would bet him whatever the odds. But I'm not about to call him a "huge underdog".
no one hit flush pacman over 140 pnds when cotto hit him, hes going to feel fear 4 the first time,no longer use the word no fear in his pants... i really thing that roach is understanding rightnow tha was an error figthing cotto, he got the catchweight, he want a bigger ring,8 oz gloves, want another refferie, want a automatic low blow DQ. ect,ect,ect...
