Calzaghe is just being a nice guy. He'd rather end the career of an old, established legend than a young, great white American hope.

Calzaghe-Pavlik will eventually happen more likely than not. The sad thing is, Dawson-Calzaghe probably won't.

I'm pretty sure that CAlzaghe will lose his SMW belts if his next fight is at 175. Without the belts its unlikely that Pavlik will fight him. ( If he wins he only gets credit for beating an older fighter on the slide ) Plus the longer CAlzaghe fights at 175 the less chance he'll ever come back down. I don't think Pavlik will fight him at 175. When Pavlik moves up it'll be to the SMW division.

Or perhaps the middleweight division is lacking in better options. Abraham is busy for next two fights. Sturm simply won't. Winky isn't being reasonable.

Pavlik is also a better style for Calzaghe, I think. Roy still could be a tricky ****er.

JC and Pavlik will still meet.

JC will beat up on old man Jones-he's shot.

Pavlik will get rid of Rubio and Duddy.

Then JC and Pavlik will get it on in 09.

Calzaghe has always been a coward

He wants to fight Jones because Jones is gone. Yet he wanted nothing to do with Jones years ago.

Of course he's going to avoid Pavlik because Calzaghe is afraid of Pavlik just as Kessler is terrified of Miranda.

Calzaghe could never handle Pavlik's style. Tall, long armed, relentless power puncher who will constantly force the action.

The Lockett fight was the clincher.

If he had said it in any other way than trying to make it sound as if Kelly doesn't want the fight I suppose I could accept that. But Arum has offered 10 million pounds. If that doesn't say, "I WANT THIS FIGHT" loud and clear, what does? So he says in his bio he will never fight Jones and now say Kelly doesn't want the fight when he knows that is not true....:-(

Calzaghe is the all time P4P number one regardless.

What makes him so especially great is how he proved this status with so few legendary victories and continues to do so.

Well, Joe might "school" Kelly, but it will be Kelly ringing the "schools out" bell. :yep

Kelly has said he wants JC before he "gets one second older".

Yeah, big money and almost assured win. Pavlik doesn't carry the marquee recognition of Hopkins or RJJ yet, though he seems on his way.

Nor anything close to a assured win for Joe against Pavlik, either.

Damn straight. The older Calzaghe gets, the less meaningful a Pavlik win would be.

Difference is Lacy beat no-one apart from a battle worn Reid and journeyman Sheika. Pavlik has beat Zuniga, McKart (past it but still decent test), Zertuche, Taylor x 2, to me there is no comparison Lacy was unproven and Pavlik has proven himself to be more than a hype job. This will be further illustrated when Taylor give Lacy a sound beating if they meet later in the year.

I do think Pavlik can pressure Calzaghe and take him out of his comfort zone. He hits way harder than Hopkins and look what happened in the 1st Rd there. Pavlik will drop or hurt Calzaghe at some point and certainly has a great chance to win. This is the reason they are going for RJJ, who still has the power but is less dangerous as he fights in spurts and can no longer go all out for the whole round, enabling calzaghe to build up a lead.
