    I was thinking Panama Lewis with the gloves in the Resto/Billy Collins Jr. fight. Or just about any dealings Don King had with a fighter. Doc Kearns, before he died told/lied to SI that he loaded Dempseys gloves at the Willard fight...character assassination. Bundini Brown, pawning Ali's belts for booze/drugs. I'm tapped out and reaching.

    Clinton, good show ! Yes on Oct 15,1910, Walter Dipley shot and killed Stanley Ketchel in a ranch in Conway ,Missour while Ketchel was recuperating from his bouts with opium and a wild life, just 5 months after Ketchel's bout with the 12 pound heavier Sam Langford. Walter Dipley was sent to prison until he was paroled 23 years later in 1934. From the day Dipley was paroled, he lived in fear that the ardent fans of the Michigan
    Assassinould kill him, but Dipley lived until 1956 ,his vile act not avenged.

    He was screwing Dipley's wife though.

    Edit: I seem to be talking crap, sorry. Some stories of this tragedy say Dipley had a wife engaging in extra-marital affairs with Ketchel.

    Stories I've read said Dipley shot Ketchel in the back, robbed him, then fled with his wife/girlfriend Goldie Smith. Initially, both Dipley and Smith were convicted of murder in the 1st degree. Her conviction was overturned after 17 months, but his conviction was upheld.

    :goodCheers, Burt. My other choice would have been the "person" that shot and killed Vernon Forrest.But I don't know if he/she was ever caught, though.
