And he thought plowing forward with no defence and hitting Floyd's arms was the way? He had no proper gameplan and neither did Graham.
agree with you here Max. Billy Graham claimed he was hatching the plan to beat Floyd for 3 years. 'so Rick-eh, i'm gonna put on big body bag and you wail away, alright? hit it hard as fook....that's what you call educated pressure, that'.
He was never going to be able to jab his way in as some people are saying he should have done. He had to take chances to close the distance with footwork and make his first punch a left hook. There are things he could have done better/ differently but on the whole he didn't fight a bad fight style-wise. He had one way of winning and that was to get in close and rough Mayweather up, he tried to it but failed.
Exactly. I agree with you & max. & for the people defending that mug of a trainer Graham? He shouldnt be let off lightly. Graham was the man who said Ricky was better than Floyd in every department, claimed he had a secret plan to destroy Floyd, trained Hatton with a belly bag that would make Rik Waller look thin in comparison, & was happy to try & make a big name for himself by hogging the limelight on 24/7 with slow motion shots of him smoking cigarettes trying to look like an old James Dean... & then when it came to the crunch & Ricky got knocked out, Billy Graham acted like a ***** by saying "I told you Ricky wasnt a welter" before skulking off, which of course he DIDNT tell us beforehand. Graham was found out for what he is, a useless yes man who was more interested in looking good on camera than he was in telling Ricky Hatton what he was truly facing in the ring that night.
Do people still believe trainers have "secret plans"? I though they died a death with boxers inventing a "new punch"....its all a bit 1950's. Hatton/ Graham had to try to win the fight with the tools they had. It obviously wasn't enough but its a bit harsh to villify Graham for not reinventing a 29 year old pressure fighter into something else.
You are missing the point Gaz. Graham filled Hattons head with **** that he was better in every department than Floyd, & that was a BIG mistake. Why? Cos Hatton fell for it all hook line & sinker, & when things went wrong Hatton lost heart & folded. Graham went along with the media, & his fans & told Ricky he was a superfast unstoppable murderous punching monster. & when Ricky faced the truth? he was unprepared & had no plan B. Why? Cos Graham was along for the ride, & was loving the camera attention 24/7 was giving him to get too worried about what was truly facing Hatton in the ring. To feed Hatton bull**** about how he was better in every department than Floyd beforehand was a criminal mistake, & Graham is guilty as charged. Graham set Hatton up for an almighty fall. Theres no getting away from it. When the chips were down, Ricky folded. Why? Cos Graham told Ricky that he would be the dominant force. Ricky wasnt mentally ready for being a fighter on the receiving end, & it cost him his 0.
So whats your Plan B in Grahams place? I just think they rolled the dice that Hattons style allowed them to do and lost....pressure guys don't tend to have a Plan B esp against the likes of Mayweather. Graham did probably get too into the 24/7 side of things but that doesn't change the fact he was a trainer with a fighter who had a (very) limited number of ways to win and who also had to be seen to make the right noises in the build up to the fight. Would a 'better' trainer have been able to substantailly improve Hattons performance in that fight?
Those people on here questioning Hattons game plan must have thought he actually had a chance of winning. Considering the hatred and bile they constantly post about the man on here I find that hard to believe. Neither do I ever recall them saying he had a cat in hells chance before the fight. Now it was because of his gameplan. Hattons just a very good brawler style boxer who just got done by the best boxer in the world and an ATG. The 39 people Floyd fought before must have all got there "game plan" wrong. You would have thought just one of them would have said lets have a game plan. Or maybe they did but found out Floyd's just too good. I think you will find that is the case! Personally I don't think Hatton is the greatest of boxers(far from it) but he comes across as a very likable chap and genuine guy. I really don't understand how people get off on all this hate.
Eloquent and accurate as ever Mr McCafferty. Slo-mo cigarettes and James Dean . Yeah, he seemed more concerend with swearing and smoking as much as possible in 24/7, rather than something that might trouble Mayweather. It turns out it was that Hayes guy who did all the conditioning etc. So when you boil it down we find all Graham did was strap on a body bag for an hour a day and stand in the middle of the ring. Some masterplan.
Put your Banjo down for a minute... the US is going into meltdown. We got $$$LOADSAMONEY$$$ when we come over. I just hope your economy doesnt bring ours down with it. And the fluke bit..whats that about sarcasm and yanks?
Graham's "educated pressure" plan was hatched on the spot in the SkySport's studios after Mayweather - Gatti.
Article in the papers today that suggests Hatton may part ways with trainer Billy Graham. Apparently those close to Hatton feel a change in his corner is needed.
To be honest, the only fool here is me for giving Hatton credit in defeat. As a musketeer, I should have known better, & I let the Hatton huggers off lightly. Why? Cos I was so misguided that I thought if I was good to the Hatton huggers, they may learn the art of humility themselves. How ****in wrong was I. You live & learn I suppose. I still cant believe that **** Hatton turned up at the Arthur-Fosterjnr fight to cheer on the englander. How disrespectful was that to those scottish idiots who travelled over to Vegas to cheer him into the nearest turnbuckle? I hope they are now bankrupt. Oh everyone calls me the big bad scotsman of ESB, but my finger is so on the pulse that i hope those scottish ****ers that disrespected me now realise that Dunky was for real.
****ing hell Dunky, were to start with that post? Giving Hatton stick for showing up at a domestic boxing show a week after losing a big fight in Vegas? Get a grip mate....the frame of mind you're in you'd call him a Big Time Charlie if he didn't turn up to support Foster.
I admire the passion with which Hatton's fan support him. I will not knock you one bit for shedding a tear. Admitting it, however, is a whole other story. Crying and Masturbating: two things ALL men do yet two things NO man should ever be caught doing.
