Kelly Pavlik is a lefty that fights conventional. People under rate what he can do with his left.

Weird. . .so you got a natural right-hander who fights southpaw against a natural left-hander who fights orthodox but occasionally switch hits a la Hagler. There's gonna be lots of lead rights and lefts and left hooks come fight night.

Some people can be right handed, but left footed. Not everyone is left sided or right sided only.

Right handed southpaws will have a heavier jab, but lower punch power in the left hand.

In the case of De la Hoya, that's the reason why his best puch, far and away, was always the left hook. On the flip side, he was so completely dependent on it that, I believe, this was a major reason, weight drain issue aside, accounting for the disaster against Manny Pacquiao. I have done some sparring and am a southpaw. You see, when a righty uses a left hook against a southpaw it's only going to find the glove of the southpaw's right hand held in the guard position, the exact opposite of what happens against an orthodox fighter. It's a relatively easy punch for the southpaw to block, evade or deflect. Oscar's lack of a solid right hand as well as the inability to switch hit like Cotto or Hagler was a major handicap that night and he was really clueless from the opening rounds.

I have already written elsewhere about the ambidextrousness of Hagler. The guy was somehting else, in a league and class all of his own. His greatest KO, the Hearns KO, was a direct result of this since the punch that really rocked Hearns was a lead right thrown from a very awkward position.

JuanMa Lopez is yet another, quite rare type of fighter. He is a right-hand dominant southpaw, meaing that he fights lefty but the money punch is the right hook.

What about Moorer and Whitaker? are they right, left or ambidexterous?

I swear i've seen David Haye favour his left hand for things, anyone else seen this?

Now that you bring it up. I remember seeing a picture of him signing an autograph with his left. He's like me in that he has a lot of power in his right hand for a lefty. I wonder if Tommy Morrison was a lefty outside of boxing. He had a great left hook.

I always notice when someone else is left handed when I'm out somewhere. Do you also recognize fellow lefties?
