Some area are richer than others. The worst is a talented time where the champion doesn't fight the top contenders.

How many punchers did he face, and what was the results of those fights?I said he fell apart under pressure ,and he was also a sucker for a right hand.Gene Tunney noted this too.
He was knocked down by Stribling and Sharkey, one a blown up cruiser the other possessor of one of the worst ko percentages ever.

Lastarza went 11 rds with champ Marciano yet Charles only went 8 2nd fight and Moore only 9, was Lastarza better than those2?

He fought George Godfrey (DQ, no knockdown), Campolo (not great but big and strong puncher), Lasky, Jose Santa. Nothing remarkable but some big strong boys.
Carnera was knocked out only twice in his prime - by Louis and Baer. Is it really worthy criticism? For someone who was supposed to have a glass chin and couldn't box?

I think '70's fan has a fair assessment.
Someone could be limited but still World Class or anomg the best at any one time-due to the value of what they do well.
If this is not true McVey, the only way around this is answering my question regarding how many of his fights were fixed?
Can you provide any evidence of how common this was?

Also, someone else posted a photo ofnhim vs. Stribling, from that he did not look overweight at 284.
Can you show me any pictures or write ups that sohow or say he was overweight then?

Compare Carnera's record vs common opponents, to that of Baer or Schmeling!

    It is interesting.

He was not as good as they were, but he still towered over the rest of the field!

I've been waiting for the Godfrey fight to surface.I think its a handcuffs job.Campolo and Santa were crap
His manager said his first 33 fights were fixed The two Stribling fights were fakes. Lasky was still comparitively green and hadnt faced anyone. Carnera was just 29 when Haynes kod him the first time.

This looks to me to be legit be footage of the Godfrey fight, but it's at the wrong speed (either that or they were both blazing fast for their size) and it's too grainy to be conclusive. Still, this might very well be the limitation of the Youtube video and not the source film. It was posted when almost all Youtube videos were in the dreaded 240p resolution.

Carnera's size for the era he fought in posed lot of problems for fighters. It's the same today for someone like Wilder (who actually appears less skilled than Carnera but who can actually punch hard with his right hand where Carnera couldn't) Sometimes your sheer dimension advantage is so huge it poses problems for many b and c class fighters. The same is true for Nicolay Valuev. However the advantage is usually nullified when facing A list fighters. Carnera got found out by Louis and Baer (who was not A list but had the size and power to negate Primo's biggest advantage, his own size) Wilder was found out twice now by a comebacking Fury and Valuev got exposed when he stepped up.
I don't believe Carnera was as bad as he was made out to be. He received extremely poor media coverage, the media likes to create narratives and unfortunately they stick for many years.
He was an exceptionally large man for the era, came to fight in shape and had surprisingly decent boxing skills for a man his size. On the flip side, he had below average power, was slow and his handlers engaged in some fixed fights while bringing him along.

That doesn't mean anything to me I'm afraid.
Carnera could stop second raters if he could trap them in a corner and use his weight to club them down but he was not a puncher, and the fact that he wasn't should make any sensible person look again at his long list of kos.
Gastanaga has 57 ko's 50 of them are against nobodies, and he was stopped 19times!
