The World cup means nothing, absoloutley nothing and I'll explain why.

The world cup was put together by promoters who were not looking out for the best interest of either team but their own best interest.

Secondly most of the contenders were not the best their countries had to offer except for Gerry Penalosa and Rey Bautista who are the best the Phillipines have aside of Pac. But Gonzalez and De Leon are not by any means Mexico's best like the former are to the Phillipines.

And Third what do 4 meaningless wins mean when Phillipines #2 guy in the entire country in terms of boxing is brutully destroyed.

There are many fights on Telefutura where Mexicans mop the floor with PR's and vise versa but these are old, shot, semi, retired or hopless journey men and prospects fighting each other.

I despise the attitude most philipinos are showing here but if that's the case so be it, have your win, celebrate, rub it in our face that we lost 4 no bodies to 4 Pinoy nobodies, that Penelosa Philipines #3 fighter beat Mexicos # who knows, a level B fighter. But the fact remains that Mexicos lower top 10 fighter destroyed Phillipines #2 fighter in brutul fashion.

You are back to sqaure one where you only have Pac again.

The world cup's outcome was much more devastating to the Pinoys than the Mexicans in terms of what EACH LOST, and it's probably the reason why most of you are acting like sore winners, because deep down you knw you lost so much this weekend in bautista.

Johhny Gonzalez is best 118 lber in the world (or was). He is the not only the best Mexican in the division but also the boxer in the division period(Now that Marquez campaigns at 122). Z Gorres is a good at 115 or 118 whichever weight he fights. He lost a close decison to Montiel who is another good Mexican fighter. So in reality on this card you had three good-very good Filipino fighters and one good Mexican fighter (De Leon) and one very good Mexican fighter (Gonzalez). There was also a prospect who was upset Roman (Mexico) 21-0..he was. There was also A.J. Banal who is a red hot prospect from the Philipines (only behing Bautista in terms of potential). So it wasnt as meaningless as you say...this is coming from a Mexican.

Dude, Gonzalez was the Best Mexican at 118 because after Israel kicked his crap he moved up along with all the other Mexicans dominating 118.

There many other Mexican fighters who have accomplished, and who are better than Gonzalez. Not taking anything away from him but he is not Mexico's best, not even top 15, so he lost to Phillipines #3 man in the whole country, okay congrats! The we have Daniel Ponce De Leon who Barely cracks top 10 if he even does for current Mexican fighters destroying the Phillipines #2 man in the enitre country.

The World Cup is a nice win, it means nothing but hey atleast they can say that despite losing their #2 guy to Mexico's #11 in brutul fashion, 4 nobodies beat 4 other nobodies hooray!:happy

Not to mention a World Cup should generally involve more than 2 countries.

Gonzalez not top 15 among active Mexicans?:patsch Name 14 other active Mexican fighters who are better than him. JMM, Barrera, Rafa Marquez, Israel Vasquez, maybe Solis at 108, Miajres @ 115 and Soto @ 130. Thats about it, Gonzalez was coming up from 118 to fight Vasquez; he was still the king of 118. That was a huge upset. (Penalosa over Gonzalez).

boomboom is NOT the 2nd or 3rd best fighter from the philippines. i you believe he is, then you are as stupid as some of them filipinos who believed the hype. gorres and penalosa are the 2nd and 3rd.

seriously, dude, get over it. if it means nothing to you, then **** it. don't ever mention it again. let them filipinos celebrate their win. you know better. starting a thread about how it means nothing to you actually makes it seem that it did hurt your pride.

well, yeah boomboom lost, he was supposed to lose. you boy gonzales was supposed to dominate gerry and retire him. look what happend. a hot pinoy prospect lost to a bull-strong mexican champ. a mexican champ lost to a 35 year old 5'4 way past his prime fighter from the philippines. ang gorres is not a nobody, he'll be a chamo someday. the other three fights, i couldn't care less about.

anyway, what would you have said if mexico won the whole thing? wouldn't you be bragging about it like the filipinos are doing now?

Wrong. Shows how much you're trying to mix truth with opinion. Israel Vazquez NEVER fought Gonzalez at 118 then moved up. Gonzalez was the one who moved up for the first time at 122 to fight Israel.

Again, no one actually thinks the Philippines is the better boxing nation P4P now after this 5-1 drubbing. Mexico still has more world champions and more history. However, flike Jopez said, fact is Mexico sent some good fighters, and the Philippines sent some good fighters. And the Philippines won.

Yes, Bautista was the #1 prospect, but aside from Banal who won his fight, there were other Filipino prospects that didn't fight on the card because they are signed with Top Rank, such as Bernabe Concepcion and Mercito Gesta. Donaire and Condes are current world champions. Viloria didn't fight either and those three are better P4P than most of the fighters the Philippines sent, relative unknowns like Domingo and Gabi.

And for you to say Gonzalez is the 15th best Mexican champ? That statement alone exposes your agenda. Name 14 current Mexican CHAMPIONS better than Gonzalez.

You can't, and the reason is that your eyes are blinded by your tears. Get some Kleenex and move on.
