i didn't notice any overhype on that show. haye hyped himself in the interview but i don't remember any of the analysts or commentators saying he will definitely be hw champ. and btw i don't think he'll ever be as popular as bruno who had mass-appeal amongst the non-boxing fans
well here's one brit who isn't! he gets sparked by either klitschko inside 3 rounds.even barretts modest jab was landing quite often on haye, how would he avoid and get inside a klitschko jab? also especially with that low held left hand, a big right hand would definitely be waiting for him.i like haye he's exciting but he's flawed, and especially against the klitschko's they're simply too big, strong and hard hitting for him.
Of course they weren't what planet are you on ? they were probably drunk and just loud nobody in the Uk is acting like haye is the second coming of christ.
Really? So basically ANY Heavyweight other than Barrett would have KO'd Haye? So presumably whoever he fights next, you are picking to beat him by KO? I was not overly impressed by Haye last night, in fact I was quite disappointed with much of his performance. He has a GREAT jab when he chooses to use it, disguises the uppercut very well and works the body well too. But last night he was throwing over hand rights as a lead off punch and swinging for the fences. Fighting like that he gets KOd inside 2 rounds by either Klit. But he has the ability to fight much better than that, and work off a fast jab that not only sets his shots better but acts as a good defence to stop his opponent from just teeing off on him. And sorry but outside of the Klitschkos I don't rate any of the heavies, so I would love to see a list of all the guys who will starch Haye according to you.
we desperately need a guy like haye. hopefully he fights a little more than 1 time every 8 months...... i'm an american but boxing fan first....i could care less if haye is english...i like a brash talker who brings is "A" game, comes in shape and is looking to make big fights..... i like the guy
Solid first performance from David Haye. Committed punches. He was disciplined in his approach. Good (but not great) handspeed for heavy. A little bedragged footwork but I'll put that down to nerves given the occasion. Decent heavy power (though not perhaps as explosive as I had thought). Like the Enzo Macc fight he employs no steady jab. He's effectively waiting for the counter to swing really hard. Slipping Monty's jabs well. It will be worrysome for when he gets into the ring with the Klitschko's. You can expect them to use the long jab to pick him off at range and keep him off-balance. He may wait too long for the counters - and remember he will be facing brothers who can punch with power at HW and who are some 30-35lbs heavier than him. One thing that was really worrying for me is that he seemed to tire quite a bit. He looked almost shot by the 5th (of course by that time Barrett was there for the taking). It was good that he kept his head about him. But knowing he's had stamina issues in the past it's a bit of a concern that he should be tiring that early on - it wasn't a very fast paced bout. On paper, given the 5 KD's, I'm happy with it as a first performance. At least we know his power at HW is good. But I'll have to wait a while and a few more fights to see if he's the real deal. It's funny that in a fight where he scored 5 KD's it really didn't convince me fully; but that's the way it is. --PS: Loved the Monte Barrett ring entrance. Was one of the funniest things I saw all year. Now that's entertainment :good--
:nod :happy I think it's that he does the trash-talking intelligently. It just works. Plus he takes the big fights and is entertaining to watch.
Good perspective. Haye has enough offense to score other wins at HW, but his flaws are obvious. A win over a shot Barrett means little. The same Haye huggers who are having a woody over this fight would ridicule either K bro or top HW for fighting a shot Monte. You can't have it both ways. So what does DH's win mean? Almost nothing. DH is exciting for similar reasons that Wlad is exciting. Big punch, not the greatest punch resistance. Wlad, like LL learned to be more cautious. If Haye keeps fighting in that offensive hells bells style, there are many HWs that will starch him... and that's exciting :yep Let's see him fight a live top 10 HW. Ibrag, Chagaev, Povetkin, Chambers are even about DH's size. Maybe he'll win or maybe he gets KTFO :dead
Your post #22 showed logic. But the above did not. Is Haye showing intelligent trash talk by saying he can - he suggests easily :huh - beat the K bros and other top HWs? I think he's being a blowhard hyping himself. He takes the big fights? What "big" fight has he taken at HW? If Haye-Barrett is a big HW fight, then Vitali vs Peter was the fight of the century !
Frank Bruno was massively popular in the UK though. Everyone loved him and knows who he is. He's actually more known over here to non-boxing fans than Lennox Lewis is, even though his career was less successful.
He is very sloppy. His defense is nonexistant. He is fast and has power but that is about all he has. He doesnt have much in the way of an inside game or uppercut. He would get countered very easily by either Klitschko. He will try to pop shot them from the outside which will be a huge mistake. His hands low, he isnt as fast as he thinks he is, he will get countered.
Yeah those are all guys that I would have serious anxieties putting him in there with. I might worry about him versus Chazz Whitherspoon too. And an inshape Arreola would be too much toughness for him.
