No glass chin, only a glass defence.

It's always an interesting theory. A more pragmatic one would be chins aren't that much different one from the other, the real difference is made by how much and how clean you are hit.

How good your Chin is has nothing to do with your defense. Look at guys like Chuvalo and Tex Cobb they literally had no Defense and took flush punches from savage punchers over and over.

If you have an Iron Chin it doesn't matter how bad your defense is. Bad defense is only used as an excuse for Glass Jawed fighters.

Well, that exists too. Fighters who know how to absorb and roll with a punch, and fight relaxed, can be seen to have good chins ..... and some fighters with "bad" chins are actually too stiff and don't know "how" to absorb or roll with the punches, and end up getting hit too clean and starched. :good

BUT there are some fighters who don't even get hit clean, and they even see the punches coming, and they aren't even hard shots, sometimes just glancing slaps .... yet they get KO'd anyway ... those fighters are the true "glass jaws". :good

They do exist, they do. But not every guy who gets hurt or KOd is in possession of one. That get's exaggerated. Sometimes a damned good shot is exactly that, see JMM-Pacquiao 4....... And sometimes a guy just gets KOd by a shot that should never have done so, a la David Price last week.

The punch Teper KO'd Price with was a hard shot tbh.

Now, the half assed slap to the neck that Tony Tiger KO'd him with was beyond pathetic, you know you're not made for boxing when you get KO'd with something like that.

lol, and to think brit****s where hyping Price to beat Wlad someday. Wlad would probably put him in a coma with a jab

It landed in the right spot, it didn't seem particularly damaging or concussive. Seemed more like he just flicked it out, a flickhook, if you will.

You take this iron chin stuff too far... Having a good defense is very important.

Defense has nothing to do with how good your Chin is. None.

Yes it is good to have some Defense but it doesn't matter because your Chin is a totally separate issue. Willie Pep as good as he was Defensively would have been worthless if he had a Glass Jaw. Everyone is going to get hit no matter how good or bad your defense is. That was my point.

Having or not having defense does not have one thing to do with a fighters mandible fortitude.

I agree here... I misunderstood you for writing off defense alltogether. James Toney was iron chinned, how many of those close fights would he have lost if he wasnt so good at slipping and countering?

It isn't that glass jaws exist in boxing. It's knockouts happen.

^^^^^^Only an armchair who has not fought 1 amateur or professional fight who cheapens boxing by making the ridiculous "above" statement says that.

You can tell which posters here respect and have tried boxing on any level...and those who are Larry Merchant wannabees lol... Trust me lol.

It's more than proved that there are people that can take RIDICULOUS amount of punishment without being knocked out/down, like alí, provodnikov, chávez, hagler....

If there are iron-chins, and that's obvious that they exist, it's obvious too that glass chins exist too. Not everybody reacts the same way to punishment, some people just turn their brains off sooner than others.

Imho, having an iron chin is not something very good to the boxer since, as he cannot shutdown, he continues taking punishment with a very high possibility of taking big brain damage and even die. Average chin is perfect, maybe a little bit more than average but not much more, hard enough not to shutdown inmediatly, and weak enough to shutdown when you're done and avoid unnecessary punishment.
