I dont believe Hagler vs Hearns to be the best fight of the fab 4 fights

I'ts like you are in "The denial Club" You cannot and will not accept the fact, Thomas Hearns broke his famous right hand in the opening round. What is it about that fact you don't understand?

Putting me on ignore is meaningless, it does not alter the fact Hearns broke his right hand in the opening round. Hagler wanted nothing to do with a Hearns rematch.

 

Yes, Hearns broke his hand.

But in the process hit Hagler with his best right hand and nothing happened.

What evidence can you provide that Hearns could have beaten Hagler if he had not broken his hand?

Hagler proved his whole career he had an iron chin and could not be kod

Hearns, on the other hand, showed against Barkley, Leonard and Hagler that he was not immune from getting hurt.

How would two healthy hands have made a difference when Hagler took Hearn's best shot before Hearns broke it?

How would having two healthy hands prevent Hearn's average chin from being dented by Hagler?

You simply cannot make a good case that Hearns would have beaten Hagler if not for the broken right hand.

 

Interesting take on this. Hagler was one of those who never ran from ANYONE !

 

Dwight Braxton. he ran from Qawi when a career high payday was offered. Marvin also ran from a rematch with Hearns and Leonard.

 

In my opinion it was the best fight.

Leonard - Hearns II ranks secomd best in my opinion.

 

Duran vs leonard 1 was a little holdy in places. Or maybe it's just Duran vs Leonard 2 & 3 are so bad it makes 1 worse.

 

The thing about Hagler - Hearns is that if you watched it live with al the intangibles, hype, expectations, atmosphere and everything surrounding it you were left utterly breathless.

Watching it at face value after the event is altogether different. You had to experience it at the time to understand the full value.

So as far as replays of all the matches go it will depend on your criteria and to a lesser extent who your favored fighters are.

SRL - Duran 1 is a fantastic fight with Duran's ablities in full cry and SRL's lesser known attributes (at the time) on full display. Plenty of action.
SRL - Duran II is nothing like the first but SRL fans can see him going about his work in a much different way in a fight that will cause passionate debate over both fights until the end of time. SRL looks sharp.
SRL - Hearns is a great tactical battle with some ebbs and sways between two Welterweights really at the top of their 147 game.
Hagler - Duran is an interesting fight finding Hagler somewhat conservative and Duran quite wily and in an interesting mode against a much bigger man.
Hearns - Duran is probably Hearns best moment. His form is frightening in this one and it's a treat to watch someone so on point against such a notable opponent.
Hagler - Hearns needs no big summation. It's just straight up violence with the two mostly trying to beat the crap out of each other.
Hagler - SRL is an intriguing fight with one guy playing the boxer and one the walk foward puncher. Lots of skill on display from the smaller man and flurries of action. For me it was quite clinical.
Hearns - SRL II is a good intriguing fight with plenty of swings. Not unlike their first fight but over 12 rounds with both older and heavier.
SRL - Duran III is just one guy racing around outpoiinting another who barely ever catches him.

I quite like SRL - Duran I nowadays, it's a great action fight with skills on display as well. I also rewatch SRL's clinic aainst Hagler quite a bit and as a Hearns fan love his decimation of Duran.

 

An excellent point. It was the whole hype machine that went on for weeks before, it was all the bad mouthing, the smack talk, the air of anticipation and when the fighters were finally in the ring, when Richard Steele brought them together centre of ring, there was an intense feeling that something special was about to happen. And when the fight started, the way they slammed into each other like crazed maniacs and the back forth nature of the fight, particularly in the first round. There's been very few fights in my lifetime quite like it for anticipation and build up that also delivered and then some as a spectacle and wasn't an anti-climax like so many big fights have been.

For me that's why the fight is so special.
