I don't believe the GBP/SHO 147 Hype... Margarito, Cotto, Williams, were better...

IDK, but as of late I am noticing a brainwash of casual boxing fans and even rookie boxing fans in forums.

I heard in the Showtime broadcasts how they are excited for the amazing year of 147 pound fights.....?

I am sorry but Judah vs. Paulie isn't exciting...

Miguel Cotto done defeated Paulie when he was in his prime, and Judah when Judah was still Judah. The fact that Paulie is a prime time player at 147 right now, shows that the division isn't all that it's shown to be...

I think it's being portrayed that way on purpose... to build up opponents for Mayweather...

The 147 Division was really hot when Margarito, Shane, Cotto, Paul Williams (Who was a beast).... were in the division... but right now...?

Let's be honest.... Could any 147 pounder now, touch the Miguel Cotto, Margarito, Shane Mosley, Paul Williams of 2008-2010 when they were in their primes? Nope...

You have Danny Garcia going life and death with Zab Judah...? The same Zab Judah Mayweather and Cotto put a whooping on years ago.

His father talking about slowly moving him to 147 when Miguel Cotto jumped to 147 straight up to fight the undefeated Carlos Quintana.

I think we need to have a reality check..... Otherwise you will get a dose of Mayweather vs. Bums and even Pacquiao vs. Marquez Part 20 for the rest of our lives.... :patsch

When I heard showtime say they are excited about 2014 at 147... While I enjoy boxing, we have to be honest... the talent pool in boxing is nothing compared to what it was...at least at 147 at the moment.

This isn't a HBO vs. Showtime thread either, for I have said that I can care less about any of them... but seriously... I can't drink this kool aid any longer.

PS: Margarito....Yes he had the bricks vs. Cotto.... but he was a killer and even without the bricks... the man could fight.

the last generation of fighters were 154'ers acting as 147'ers

this generation is 140'ers acting as 147'ers, not a good comparison.

Couldn't have said it better, Walk. Thats exactly what I was thinking; wait, all the 140lbs's jumped up to 147 for bigger paydays and are making weight without cutting. Whilst the former were cutting significantly cutting to make weight.

Its the time attached to the names. In 10 years there will be new cats who we might compare to the Danny Garcias of now. Give it time, enjoy the ride, when you overexamine it ruins the thrill. Let them make their names. Cotto, Pac, Floyd weren't born HOF. Hell 10 years ago these guys were up and coming fighters who people would have never mentioned in the same light as those killers who came before them. People were saying that Pac and Floyd werent ready for ODLH, yet today they both rank infront of him in history. It took time to make their names. These guys will too. :deal:

I just think the flaw of this becoming a WWE vs. WCW thing... or like a UCF Product is they hyping up of fighters who do not belong at the true elite level. Very similar to them feeding John Cena to wrestling fans for the past 4 years down their throats.... but he cannot be compared to Stone Cold, The Rock and other entertainers... and Yes IT'S FAKE... just giving example.

No way Rios belonged in there versus Pacman...

No way Khan belongs with Mayweather in May....

But it's their product, so they hyped up 2014 on that telecast like it's the 2nd coming of Ali, Tyson and others.....

Reality is that if the cold war wasn't happening, these fighters could polish themselves up more and get better... but right now... Top Rank continues to do rematches... and GBP thinks that anything Mayweather endorses sells and it's not true...

I agree. The majority of WW's today are blown up JWW's. Margarito, PWilly, Clottey, and even prime Cintron would've walked through a lot of these current top 10 WW's. Prime Trinidad or Quartey wouldn't even be bothered.

Isnt it funny how Floyd ducked every single one of the names in the OP.
Margarito would have ****ed him. He also would have let Cintron out of his basement to come play.

Yes let's live in the present and dine out on Broner's defeat via boxing lesson to crude, slow, slugger Marcos Maidana.

I maybe in the minority but I disagree with the ts premise. Margarito/Williams/Cotto have never been undisputed or the clear cut man at any weight like a Garcia, they don't have any wins over ATG's like Bradley and aren't multi division titlist like an Alexander or even a Guerrero

Head to head Pacquiao already best Margarito Mayweather would beat Williams and Bradley would beat Cotto. Go through the list of accomplishments of the top JWW/WW now compared to then the guys now are way further along in there career. The only reason some of those guys are hyped like that are because Mayweather didn't fight them.
