I don't believe Wilder/Liakhovich is a joke...

If Wilder can't blow out Liakhovich early and I don't think he will, I can see Price/Thompson all over again. I know Liakhovich is extremely past it but he gave Jennings-a better technician than Wilder-a good fight and he faced a super heavy annihilator in Helenius and was giving him lessons for longer than Wilder's ever had to fight. People run down Helenius but his finishing ability is technically on another level than Wilder's ever shown.

Helenius and Jennings had to take Liakhovich late. Everyone who's stopped him has had to take him to 9-12. Including Briggs and Helenius. Can Wilder do that? I'd love to be wrong to have another great American heavyweight contender but I don't think he's got the stuff. A young Wilder and a way past it Liakhovich spells a toss up for me and because of what the odds will probably be I'm betting Liakhovich.

I don't care if people think it's a joke fight that won't mean anything for Wilder. I heard that with Thompson/Price. This is not a joke match. If Wilder wins by knockout early it does mean something for his power-it'll be the most impressive knockout he's had (not much competition) if it's early. If he wins late or by decision it'll be very meaningful experience that he needed. I think this is a good fight and Jennings and Scott are a league above Wilder right now and we'll see that next month.

Liakovich can still rip to the body. Probably his best remaining asset.

He really tore up Helenius to the body, and landed some ok stuff on Jennings downstairs as well.

Wilder is even taller than Helenius, there's going to be a lot of body there for him to work. Certainly not a bad thing for the White Wolf.

Liakhovich is also willing to throw punches with his opponent, usually a left hook. He's not prone to clamming up. Could be dangerous for Wilder... Getting caught in an exchange.

To beat Sergei you usually need to beat him half to death. Wilder better blast him out relatively early because he doesn't have the tight, eat muff defense that Helenius and Jennings used against Sergei.

I just don't see the upset happening.

His performances were too hit and miss even in his physical prime. I'd like to see Sergei show up and give a serious effort to see how Deontay can handle someone who won't go away easily, but I have my doubts as to whether SL's got it in him.

    Stranger things have happened, though.

There goes Wilder's perfect KO ratio. The real question is can Wilder last 10 rounds?

It is a joke either way. Wilder's career is moving at a snail's pace. It's unfathomable why such a highly hyped boxer would waste his physical prime fighting trash cans day in day out. I wish he dropped from the HW scene along with Boytsov, both of whom have been wasting our time for years.

Besides the Valuev match (Where he was a fat blob) where has he ever just phoned a performance in?

He fought spirited efforts till' the end in his last two losses.

His weight has been in the low 230's as well, which is not a bad weight for him. Lightest he's been in several years.

Not saying the guys going to win but he's not Audley ****in' Harrison in there.

This will certainly be his best win to date. I have met Sergei in his prime down in Phoenix. He was pretty lazy in the gym even then. You cannot deny his talent though. I suspect Wilder will stop him 4th rd.

Liakhovich is not a bad fighter. Notice Wlad never fought Liakhovich. Liakhovich beat the Prime Brewster that beat Wlad and other Euro hype jobs. The only reason the Wlad ***s are saying he is over the hill is because he lost to Jennings. He is not the fighter he was true but its not a bad fight for Wilder. Its nice to see a fighter being managed well insted of throwing in with someone after 15 fights. Wilder is a powerful fighter and he will win the belts when given the chance.

Exactly. Even now-not a pushover. I can't see him Audleying this.
    :rofl
I know the power's there. I'm not going to bet my life savings against him or anything. So that 250 bucks is mostly safe.
