because the circumstances were quite different.. By the time rematch came, he was all but done as a fighter. Plus he was coming back after a detached retina surgery and a few more unnecessary punches from Wlad and he could have got permanantly blind. 1. He was over the hill 2. Detached retina Quitting in his situation is acceptable... Chagaev who's supposedly a champion and still in his prime shouldnt have gone out like that.. It's unnacceptable. This is what's wrong about the current state of boxing. TO all u guys who are calling Brewster a quitter... **** OFF ANyone who's seen Wlad/Brewster 1 knows that Brewster is ALL HEART..
Corner threw in the corner..Timm don't ask a fighter if he can go on, he knew Wlad almost had him at the end of the 9th, and there was no need to get him hospitalized. Timm is a very good trainer. Chag didn't quit, his corner was wise...and any one with half an eye, could have seen it.
I dont think Brewster was past his prime. Brewster was never more than a slugger, and power is the LAST THING to leave a fighter so He was still a dangerous two fisted puncher when he fought Wlad. Brewster never relied on speed/reflexes/skills....so that doesnt come into play He has looked good since knocking out a man who took toney to a split decision. Brewster got lucky in the first Wlad fight that Wlad suffered a panic attack because wlad literally dominated him for the first 4 rounds and every round of the rematch.
Brewster was and is still very young! He was getting murdered in the first one until Wvlad mysteriously collapsed. Wvlad ENDED Brewster's career. Brewster is a QUITTER and ultimately a LOSER. Some people are just delusional.
Chagaev is past his prime aswell and coming off inconsisent performances and after that terrible Achilles tendon injury.
IT doesnt matter if Brewster is young.. It's about the mileage on a fighter's body and not the age.. Brewster was never the same after the first Wlad fight even though he won.. He paid a high price for that victory.
Exactly, so be objective, Chagaev has been plagued with injuries and has only had 6 rounds of action in a year and a half.
You are right, olsen! Chagaev's coach Timm threw the towel. He had seen enough and didnt want to watch his boy lying in the ring dust. I guess Chagaev would have continued fighting, but he had no say in Timm's decision to stop the fight.
Brewster was inactive for 15 months coming into the second Wlad fight. The fight before was a huge war that he lost in, after throwing everything but the kitchen sink at his oppenent and couldn't take him out. Wlad picked the perfect time to rematch Brewster, and we seen a very faded Lamon that night because of it.
Brewster wasnt much different in the second fight than the first, the big difference was Wlad.Brewster was also coming off of retina surgery before the first fight and a year layoff also.
Brewster had a detatched retina coming into the fight, mentally that weighed heavily and his trainer even said he would stop the fight after the 1st round if he gets hit on the eye. Chagaev was ruled unfit medically a few weeks ago due to hepatitis, wlad took a jab so as not to get infected which tells the whole story there! Chag has been out for a long time between beating the worldbeaters Skelton and someone called Drummond, he was even announced as in recess lol, more like cessation.
