People say modern boxers are better than classic boxers. Not true at all. As someone who's actually had amateur fights this is completely false. It's the opposite. Boxing has declined in basically every way imaginable. Stamina has declined as weightlifting and lack of committed conditioning has occurred. Power has declined because technique has suffered. Chin, toughness and heart has taken a nosedive. But most of all the skill has completely eroded and top level skill can only be found among a very select few people. Guys like Kovalev, GGG and Morales like a decade ago were the rare guys in modern boxing. Impeccable footwork, technique, timing, conditioning, heart, etc. It's so dumb I think when fans say hey look at the NFL now compared to 40-50 years ago. That's BS because it's apples to oranges. We know what works in boxing. Boxing has been a sport for thousands of years. What works and what doesn't has been tried and tested for thousands of years. All of a sudden some guys come along and say well everybody all those years was doing it wrong. **** that.
Ah go eat a cheeseburger you fat yank, not the world's fault you can't compete anymore The reign of the gypsy king is upon us
You're clueless. Chess has been around for 1500 years. Its exactly the same. Yet champions today would mop the floor with champions from 50 or 100 years ago. Its like that with EVERY sport, boxing included.
The only people who hold views like the op are americans who only say this becuase it's the only thing that makes them feel better about how poorly things are starting to go for them
Me too, I think he beats tyson and then defends 4 times a year for the next 30 years racking up an incredible 120 defences.
I don't know anything about chess. All I know is boxing has been going on for thousands of years. When you want to learn how to box better you put in tape of fighters from the 60's and 70's. Why is that? It's because they were using better technique and skill.
Boxing's been around for thousands of years but the rules that are used today have only been for around 150 years. Look at L. Sullivan and see how much boxing has changed since then. Oh and the rules have in fact been changing since then as well. In particular to rounds, from 100s of rounds to 20, to 15 and finally to 12 which is what we have today. So the sport has been evolving for sure.
