Perez already beat Agbeko handily, and drew with Mares. Why not just have Mares fight Vic, and Perez fight the winner instead of calling this some kind of tourney?

Because he didn't beat Agbeko 'handily'. Lots of people felt he lost that fight, it was certainly deserving of a rematch. And who wouldn't wanna see these 2 go at it again?

Well, Agbeko beat Vic, for starters, so it gets pretty circular. That said, I don't see why anyone should complain. You get four solid matchups between four top guys in a strong weight class, and no matter how you match them up, they should all make stylistically interesting fights.

Hell, if Perez-Agbeko had happened this year, it would have been a no doubt fight of the year. Last year just happened to be really strong, with Williams-Martinez and Marquez-Diaz beating it out. I'm thrilled to see a rematch.

****, you are right.. totally forgot Vic lost to Agbeko.

I guess I'd rather see Perez fight Vic first, and Agbeko fight Mares first.

Boxing fans can be a strange breed at times. You put the top fighters in a division into a tourney and some fans question the integrity?

Granted they may have fought each other previously, but this is what makes it interesting - they now know that particular fighter, know the strategy they used didn't work, so they'll try something new.

Vic for example did not fight a smart fight against Agbeko that he displayed against the previous opponents. Vic used his brains to outbox Arce, Mirajes, and Kirillov. Granted they are smaller fighters, but don't expect the same crash-and-bang style we saw him return to in the first fight.

I'd expect the other 3 guys have improved as well, so this makes it very interesting.

I just don't get why they started with a re-match, and by rematch it's the first fight in over a year since losing to Perez.

Because they're trying to showcase some of the smaller weight fighters. It's brilliant, because if it goes well, that opens the door for more main events for smaller fighters. Calling it a "tournament" gives it more of an appeal to the average person.

All the wins he has over those fighters are controversial. I think Mares beat him but the fight was judged a draw.

The only thing wrong with the bantam tourney is that Montiel, Donaire, and Moreno aren't in it. The first two are not Showtimes' fault that Bob Arum is a complete ****. I have no idea if they offered a spot to Moreno.

I am looking forward to this doubleheader more than almost any other one that had happened all year.
