Dude. Chill. You really need to get a good copy of the fight and watch it. Kelly picks off punches close to him and in one exchange the announcers were jizzing about a combo only ONE punch touched Kelly and he rolled his head with it so it had no effect. Things happen fast but you have to be watching. Try it without the beer next time.
Get over it Lopez lost. 99-91 98-92 95-95 The best Lopez can do is get a draw in one judge's card. :deal
I scored it 96-95 for Lopez. 5-4-1. The even round could have gone either way. Any score from 96-4 to 94-96 was reasonable, so no robbery. Two of the judges were out to lunch. Is Pavlik done ? Not necessarily. He showed a lot of ring rust. He needs to stay busy with at least three non-elite fighters over the next 12 months and then face a name. We will have a better idea then.
Wow -- I've watched the fight closely twice. I would find it difficult to find even one round for lopez. Maybe the first, but that;s it.
Pavlik won wide. Remember: Clean effective punching Lopez never touched Pavlik with anything, never had his respect, and got hit with some very hard shots. Pavlik would get scored on a few times with weak flurries and then erase it with one huge left hook and a few good jabs that would rock Lopez's head back, rinse, repeat.
The ringside commentary was very biased in favor of Lopez. He threw a lot of rapid arm punches that barely affected Kelly. Kelly threw hard, meaningful punches behind a strong jab and increasingly landed a very effective hook. Kelly showed a bit better defence by blocking shots with his gloves and showing good head movement and some old-school skills with the shoulder rolls and head bobbing. His timing got better as the fight progressed. I can't believe how people would write off such a young, powerful fighter who is on the comeback trail. The great Jake Lamotta lost so many key fights and had many false starts but ended with a great career. Kelly could be champ again if he stays clean and sober and keeps improving his defensive skills. He has a terrific jab, great chin and heavy hands.
Watching the fight I thought Pavlik was down by the end of it but knew he'd get the decision. He landed a few hurting rights in there but I saw him getting outworked on the inside and failing to box well with his jab, failing to control the distance and set up meaningful offense. I won't say he's done, but he looked bad, and if it was indeed rust, he has to prove it by impressing in his next bout.
I didn't see the fight but was very surprised and dissapointed to see that Kelly only managed a majority decision.
