Never mind what Ali did in the ring, his out-the-ring achievements alone make him a candidate for having a higher rank than Greb. He beat Foreman (ATG), Frazier (ATG), Liston (ATG), Moore (ATG), Bob Foster (ATG), Patterson (borderline ATG), Norton (borderline ATG) etc etc

EXPLAIN CLEARLY how you can say Greb is the best ever without ever seeing him in the ring?

Greb beat the following (NWS victories don't count as they are not official wins):

    Tunney (ATG)
    Walker (ATG)
    Loughran (borderline ATG)
    Gibbons (borderline ATG)
    Slattery (nothing too special)
    etc

hmmm... doesn't seem like that constitutes to greatest p4p fighter of all time, especially when we have no way of seeing his in-the-ring abilities.

Robinson, the real greatest p4p fighter ever, beat the following:

    Gene Fullmer
    Carmen Basilio
    Bobo Olson
    Rocky Graziano
    Henry Armstrong
    Randy Turpin
    Jake LaMotta
    Sammy Angott
    Bobby Dykes
    Kid Gavilan
    Marty Servo
    Fritzie Zivic
    etc

Greb beat great fighters like Jack Blackburn, Billy Miske, George Chip, Tommy Gibbons, Jack Dillon, Kid Norfolk, Gene Tunney, Mickey Walker, Tiger Flowers and Maxie Rosenbloom.

He annihilated every middleweight contender. He annihilated every light heavy weight he could get in the ring with him. And he destroyed every heavy weight that he faced. And he did this without putting on the requisite weight to qualify for those divisions. He was chopping down monsters who outweighed him some 20 or so pounds, and doing it with ease.

He reduced genius technicians like Gene Tunney to bloody messes who couldn't figure out how to handle him. He left Jack Dempsey dumbfounded. While past his prime he crushed Mickey Walker, one of the greatest fighters pound for pound, of all time. He fought 300 times in just over a decade. He broke an arm against Kid Graves and won the round anyway. He could fight dirty, fight on the inside, and when he required it, he could outbox boxers.

He was also, with the exception of the early years of his career, partially, if not entirely blind in one eye. Yup, the only man to ever defeat Gene Tunney, did it with vision in only one of his eyes.

What difference does it make that you can't see footage of him? You can see footage of Tunney and of Walker and you can see that they are great. Therefore when we read the unanimous reports that Greb destroyed both, surely we have to assume that he was something special? Either that or he was the luckiest boxer who ever lived!

Sounds very similar to "Charley Burley and the black murderers row". Very informative book, but lacking that flair that would make it a page turner.

That's a shame. I have the book and am looking forward to settling in and reading it. Stonehands should be writing these books!

Have you read "Barney Ross" by Douglas Century? Excellent book that I couldn't put down. Would make a fantastic movie.

I haven't. Unfortunately I'm way behind my reading lately. I'll order it now, though. Cheers for the recommendation :good

    He annihilated every Middleweight contender?

    How do you know that?

Oh wait you don't... BECAUSE THERE'S NO ****ING FILM OF IT!

All those wins you mentioned are NWS and are therefore not official.. you dumb****.

Not really sure what to say here. I'm gonna just agree to disagree I think. Although in parting, I will say with your advanced logic you should absolutely take your debating skills to paleontology departments and whatnot to argue your case of there were no dinosaurs "because there's no ****ing film of it (them)". Best of luck.

You could probably do without the name calling as it may come back to bite you in the ass. Newspaper decisions were deemed as is why they're counted today. Just because a ringside decision was against the law doesn't change the facts of who won the fight.

We all have opinions son, but its hard to argue with facts. Fact is Greb fought more hall of famers and all time greats than almost any other fighter in history. You don't want to debate that because you can't. I can back this up with newspaper accounts, fighter testimonials and opinions of boxing historians who have studied not only Greb, but his era and opposition in depth. All you have is "there is no film". If you got something else Im all ears my man.
