I feel the same. I am still not sold on his greatness because i seen some things that concerned me and the Brook fight showed me i was right to worry and Brook failed to capitalize on some openings that were there. I also hate how hes being compared to Leonard. He fights nothing like him and isnt as versatile.
We will see how it pans out. He has passed every test so far without any hitches. Personally in the last 10 years, Spence is one of the most impressive welterweights I’ve seen. Given the opportunity I’m confident he will beat Thurman, Garcia, Porter etc. Imo the only person who could possibly beat him is Crawford.
Excellent breakdown. People are so mesmirized by the flashy footwork of Lomachenko, Rigo, they don’t sometimes see how doing the basic very well is sometimes the mark of an excellent fighter. Spence’s best feature to me is his engine and his confidence, after 6 rounds of getting whacked to body, you will drain whilst he is only getting stronger and stronger.
I like Spence. Been on the hype train since I saw him get completely jobbed at the Olympics and am pleased to have seen him become a very good pro. Has Crawford beaten anyone seen to be operating on the level Brook was when he dethroned him abroad? He's underrated if anything IMO and that is due to his lack of flashiness. People prob wouldn't want to get on board with Marvin if he came about these days but that's just the nature of boxing fans in 2018.
He got rocked by Emanual Lartey who couldnt crack an egg and was down on a lot of scorecards against brook before the head clash change the complexion of that fight.
It's you man. Not being able to see the obvious greatness in Spence tells all about you as a fan. It would be very difficult to find anyone that's easier to see the glowing and glaring once in a lifetime very top of the very top elite around the board than Spence. Time to find a different sport if you're having that much difficulty with the most obvious
Your comment is a bunch of garbage. Get off your high horse. In boxing the road is littered with super prospects that never panned out. Spence has as good a shot as any to succeed but he can just as easily come up short of expectations. I think he comes up short. Am i saying hes a bum? of course not. I think he`ll be a solid guy in the division for the next 5 years at least but i see him suffering some losses and they may come soon. depending on how those losses come about and how he handles them will determine whether he`ll be a great or just another solid guy.
rocked is that it? Do you know how many greats had tough moments against unheralded opposition, that was his 9th Pro fight and he came through it without contraversy. Loool what hell fight was you watching? A clash of heads changed the fight? He broke Brooks only good eye. He cracked the man’s face and made him quit in front of his home town and family.
Getting rocked brings into question the chin which comes into question because his people have steered him away from fighters with any type of punching power. He was clearly buzzed several times by Brook in their fight also. Speaking of the eye injury was from a clash of heads. Watch the fight and you see clearly the fight changed after that. Not saying Spence wouldnt have won but in his first true test he was good but not spectacular against a guy who is B+ level at best. This is just my opinion and youre free to disagree. Sooner or later ill prove to be right or wrong.
Spence isn't a prospect, he's a legit champion who beat the brakes off the best ww in the world in brook. What does he need to prove to the trolls ? He's been the best fighter in boxing going on two years now and only getting better and better. I don't think he can be beaten ATM, he's physically and mentally in his prime. Brook is also great, because he lost to the best mw and the best ww doesn't change the fact he's an elite fighter and beats every ww and jmw not named Spence. The brook that stepped in the ring with ggg and Spence that is. So many boxing fans either are the most ignorant sports fans in the entire world or the vast majority are simply trolls, , I lean towards the latter just because most of their post are so far off reality they can't be being honest with Their assessments. Look at 75% of the threads and then tell me their Sane level headed "fans"
Or its possible that your not the know it all boxing authority you think you are and people have different opinions to yours. You say things as if theyre facts. The only fact you spouted was that he isnt a prospect and is a champion. Spence being the best fighter in boxing over the last two years is YOUR OPINION. Spence being unbeatable right now is YOUR OPINION. Brook being able to beat every WW is YOUR OPINION. Brook being the best WW outside of Spence is YOUR OPINION. Your entitled to your opinion but youre no more right than the other guy. We will find out how good Spence is or isnt over the next couple of years. At this point i will wait on all the hes "great" stuff because he has yet to prove anything.
at 147 he is great. lets see what happens at 154. which will happen in the near future imo. at 147 hes a stud. he wacks the body and throws down mid late rounds .. str8 savage way to strong at 147 for any of these guys. only one that stands a chance imo is thurman and bud.
Spence is the best body puncher in boxing today, which is almost a lost art. That alone is greatness.
