I don't see the hype in Shakur Stevenson

Watched a few of his fights, the most recent vs Conceicao, and I don't see anything special. All I hear is how he is a master of distance and range which basically means he's great at taking a step back everytime his opponent throws his punches. Apparently that is supposed to be an amazing skill.

He does not even counter, he waits until his opponent stops then starts setting up his own punches going forward, he is not a counter puncher.

His speed is nothing special for the weight, and power is mediocre. His offence is pretty basic, nothing special in how he puts punches together.

His best quality is his defense and head movement, although far from perfect he still eats far more clean shots that a true master like Floyd.

He idea of a body shot is consistently hitting below the belt. Not an impressive skill. To me he looks like a decent technically skilled boxer but not even close to special at all. I am confident Santos gives him a very tough fight and exposes him if not stops him.

Plus he is the most boring boxer since Ward. He makes Floyd look exciting. No chance this kid becomes the face of boxing. A solid 7/10 fighter at best imo.

TBH, I agree. He is good, but way overrated. He needs to beat better opponents to have to be given the credit many are giving him. His standout win for me was against Oscar Valdez, and as much as I love Oscar, we saw what Navarrete did to him.

Good fighter. Is he great? Not yet. But he can be.

I agree he is completely overrated is always way bigger than his opponents but still can't manage to put a dent in them. He fights like a cat as well.

Shakur is the most talented 135 pounder out there, and he proves it this weekend against DLS who's his biggest test to date.

    Edit. The fight is tommorow..

I would love for you to explain how he is an exciting fighter. Maybe google the definition of 'exciting' first.

For one he fights the top fighters. Fighting Herring and Valdez back to back was quality.

Wish more fighters would fight the best on their division.

He may win a few fights but a Rocky Balboa he'll never be.

What's exciting to me might not be exciting to you. I enjoy watching him fight, no googling needed

Just because you enjoy watching someone fight does not mean they are 'exciting' You really should have googled that word first. Fighting top guys also does not mean you are an exciting fighter. Ward fought top guys does that mean he was an exciting fighter?

If I find him exciting, then he's exciting to me in my subjective opinion.

I've been saying this for years, Conceicao, Diaz, Gonzalez, Valdez and Herring are all pretty basic B- or C+ fighters and nothing special. I can't think of anyone at 135 that wouldn't do the same thing to them that Stevenson did. Loma, Tank, Haney, Kingry, Teofimo and probably even Isaac Cruz would have dominated and knocked most of them out. Even if he beats De Los Santos, who I think will give him the toughest fight of his career, should I be impressed? William Foster III beat him to it. At best, he's a slightly above average somewhat slick southpaw, who'll be found out the moment he shares the ring with someone even vaguely elite.

I guess time will tell. I personally rate him, he still has some areas to improve on but I'd favour him over everyone at 135 right now. Question is will any of them fight him, they all seem to prefer to face someone else other than Stevenson right now.

Shakur is one of the best fighters in the world today period. I'd pick him to beat everyone at 135 right now. There's a reason why he's being avoided.:deal:
