I dont see why so many people dont like Miranda...

the hype he got was mostly just from boxing fans in the know. it was entirely warranted as well after KO'ing davis, eastman, gibbs. great war with abraham and a good performance against a bad style matchup in green. now if you want to talk about undeserving hypejobs we've got a lot of those.even in defeat at the hands of pavlik it was still a exciting fight with bombs traded.

i've never understood the hate on miranda. awesome power, always comes to fight, does'nt whine about money, fights anyone, brings a war every fight and gives you you're money's worth. all the qualities people like about fighters. it's probably the trash talking.

 

I dont get it either but I think alot of it has to do with his contreversial loss to arthur abraham. He exposed arthur very bad that fight, and I think that because arthur had a lot of fans that they felt animonsty towards edison because of it. Then all the haters talked about how he was one dimensional and this and that. The truth is he has his downfalls, but will fight anyone. He has a strong mind and I said immedietly after the pavlik fight that he would come back and win a championship. It looks like that is starting to be the case. And I really want to see him rematch kelly very bad. I think he can take him.

 

I like Miranda. I think the only reason most fans dis him is when he trash talks their fighter. Once the fight's done, they usually go back to tuning in to his fights anyways. Exciting fighter + hard luck back story= easy to root for.

Well I agree partially however he has no jab really sometimes has good defense, great power, he has a decent sense of timing..I'm a fan:good I would just like to see him develop a solid jab and put more punches together on the inside instead of just relying(even though he can) on one punch..Other than that his trash talking has to run a close second to PBF in terms of hilarity Cheers

 

I like humble fighters who let their fists do the talking.. He opens his mouth too much , before he faced Pavlik he disgraced himself by overlooking Kelly and shouting about a fight with Jermain.. That was the start of a meltdown where he had to start back at basics. He still started with his mouth before last nights fight, why can't he just do his stuff in the ring and let others disgrace themselves he may become more publically popular , he is dangerous and is exciting but sometimes he grates on a lot of people puely because he just cant step and perform.. I would be a hardened fan if he just did this.. The mouth is less than flattereing to him.

 

Well said, Cooke. I'm a Miranda fan and told all my friends who are non-hardcore boxing fans to tune into last night's fight. Edison didn't let me down. He got a few new fans last night who will probably tune into his next bout, and that's good for the sport.

I have heard some people say they don't like his trash talk, but some of those same people like other fighters who talk trash so I don't know what the real answer is.

 

That´s the thing I also don´t understand, some people who criticize him because of his trash talking, are Toney- fans for example, that makes absolutely no sense at all...

 

I think regardless, talkers have to face the fact that they sometimes bring a lot of hatred on themselves, me.. I don't care less, but i do know that Miranda could be more popular if he was a little more humble.. A lot of people love James because he is a long time old school fighter who over 18 years has been embraced for his hard nosed respected greatness is remembered affectionately for his name calling but as well as his talking always walked the walk . JT is an established guy whos name calling is often tongue in cheek , he is almost a comical rogue, but Miranda just gets mouthy and hasn't the pedegree as an atg to have a loyal following as Toney, The thing is , James isn't loved for his Mouth he was loved firstly for his skills, then for his character as a caller.. Maybee in 12 years when Miranda wins a few more titles at different weights he can enjoy some more popularity.. As for now, he would come across better without that troublesome mouth.. so far it has just brought him embarrasment..

You make a good argument, Big Cat, but I remember James talking a whole lot of trash before he won any titles, too. Did you dislike him at the time? Some people get too upset about a guy talking trash, unless he's one of their favorites. Trash talk is an integral part of boxing, as a fighter is building up his own confidence and trying to shake his opponents. I don't take it that seriously when determining whether or not I like a fighter.

Also, lately James has a lot more to "embarrass himself" than Miranda has done. He's tested twice for steroids and has apparently forgone any attempt at being in top physical shape for a bout. He's had a great career and I respect what he has accomplished, but pointing him out as being an example of someone deserving great respect while painting Miranda as just some trash talking boxer who needs to be more humble is a stretch.

Fans don't like Miranda because of his trash talking. They like him because of what he does in the ring, same as what you said about Toney.

 

I don't disrespect Pantera Miranda but he is a wild puncher who looks to catch his opponent with a big punch, that's all he does. He can't jab, he can't put punches together, he is vulnerable and can't duck or block, he's far from accurate or polished ( which is the same as calling him crude) and his mobility is below average - why would I like him for? For having been rejected by his mother and have lived below the line of poverty, eating cats from the streets of Bogota n being bitten to death by mosquitoes? Then, I have to like every african, asian and south-american fighter - Baldo, Matthysse, Mayorga, Wonjonkham, Ouma, Ngoudjo, Bika, Ndou, et cetera, etc...

 

I love to watch Pantera fight and will be damned never miss one of em. The ONLY time I've ever rooted against him was vs. Pavlik 1. Pavlik had been my favorite for a couple years leading into it, and 2. I really didn't like how he overlooked Kelly, it was most like Kelly wasn't even at the Press Conferences and it was just about him and Taylor arguing. Also HBO showed a 10 min documentary (which is a hell of a story) on him and then just said here's Pavlik as he walked into the ring.

I will watch every Pantera fight I can get to see.:deal

not get get technical on ya but it was the streets of barrenquilla not bogota. In bogota it is like 60 degrees all year round (it like 8k above sea level, very temperate) and there are no mosquitoes there. :yep And yes, the mosquitoes in barrenquilla WILL ****ing eat you to death. When I first went there I made the mistake of sleeping with the windows open. When I woke up my arm (which was the only skin really exposed) literally had bumps on top of bumps. I got bit like, no ****ing lie, 100+ times. Very digusting.

 

I like Miranda hes a solid fighter..BUT unless he gets some technical and a concept of defense he wont go far.
