What do you guys think? Everyone keeps talking about how Hatton is now on the decline b/c he lost to Floyd. Personally, I do not think this is the case at all. I just feel he doesnt look as good b/c he isnt fighting the same 40 tomato cans that he has fought in the past.

Think about it. His last fights have been against all name opponents and he has looked very poor in every one of them except an over the hill Kostya and Castillo.

He still fights the exact same way. Perhaps its just that he cant handle the B-class/A-class levels of competition.

Just my opinion. What do you guys think.

Another reason I dont like to say he is past his best is b/c I dont know exactly when his best supposedly was. Most people would say he was at his best when he fought Kostya. IMO, it's hard to say b/c it's not like Kostya was in his prime.

Yea, he fought well against Maussa, but he is a B/C fighter. He beat Castillo, but he was over the hill.

So exactly when was Hatton supposedly in his "prime"

I suppose he was in his prime while he was beating the hell out of cab drivers and his local pub bartenders.

If anything, if he was so much in his prime after Kostya, then he should have easily starched the likes of Urango & Collazo.

The only logical excuse I can come up with is that he just was never that good. He has not beaten a great fighter prime fighter and IMO, he never will even come close to it.

Hatton is definitely on the decline. Don't talk as if Lazcano is so much better than the opponents Hatton was fighting pre-Tszyu, he isn't

Yeah his not as good as Eamon Magee or all them WBU danish pastrys is he? Juan has an 18th month lay off and has him nearly out inthe 10th? Yeah thats some major decline right there.

    I agree.
He mauled Tszyu and got away with a lot of cheating, before that all he did was beat up on a bunch of washed up fighters and tomato cans.
He was never that good to begin with, simple as that.

He is on the decline a little. No question about it, his lifestyle is catching up to him.

You've got to remember with Hatton's style, you would expect him to be just past his peak by now, from a logical point of view. It is undoubtedly a young mans style.

Shame he spent what should have been some of his best years making WBU defences and the like

In order for someone to be on the decline, that means they had to have already had a prime moment in their careers.

Please tell me when Hatton was in his prime. Oh, and being in your prime isnt just in 1 fight either. Just b/c a fighter loses 1 time doesnt mean they are going to all of sudden not be in their prime anymore.

I think it's a very lame excuse. He was either never that good to begin with or he doesnt have the fire to train as hard as he once did since his defeat.

Actually he probably isn't much better than Magee at 140, although he's better than the Scandinavian/Argie fighters Hatton fought. And yes, Juan was out for 18 months. And Hatton struggled and was hurt a lot. So yeah, he probably is on the decline. 140 is a cesspit you see, there isn't a huge difference between world-class and the top of our domestic scene. I'm pretty sure a prime Hatton gets hit and hurt far less against a mediocre fighter that is past their prime, has little power at 140 and was VERY rusty.

Between 2002 and 2005. He wasted his prime.

Precisely. Its a patheticly poor excuse. Hatton has had a massive amount of success because of the fighters his fought and the way his been marketted. The reality was he was exposed and stretched badly by a lightweight who`s best days are gone and hadnt fought in 18 months. He was nearly stopped in the 10th for godsake if it was for the inept referring. How on earth can you say Hatton is on the decline when his ALWAYS fought that way?

Hes a two weight champ, and current linear LW champ and just beat a top ten contender without barly losing a single round. He is a ring top 10 p4p and has beaton two top 10 p4p fighters in the past. It's unfair to say he's rubish and no good.
