Myths about him: 1. "He can't punch." Fact: He KOd everyone save 5 rock-solid fighters: Eddie Chambers, Larry Donald, Jason Estrada, Friday Ahunanya and Stephane Tessier. Chambers and Donald have been stopped by the Klitschkos late, Tessier by a Platov bodyshot. Povetkin KOd Byrd in 11, Wlad needed 7 rounds, Povetkin needed 5 rounds against Mora (who was down in the first already), Mora had a LKO1 against Ibragimov but went the distance with Jon Banks and Oquendo. 27-1 Leo Nolan had never been stopped before. I say he has enough power to KO Wlad. 2. "He is untested" He is the best amateur ever to fight for the heavyweight title. Olympic Gold, World championship, European Championships, 5-0 against 2007&2009 World champ and 2008 Olympic gold medalist Cammarelle, over 100 amateur fights, no stoppage losses. Not a single fighter in the pro ranks has done more than KO a Top10 fighter in Byrd and beat a 30-0 contender in Chambers. 3. "His career has stalled" Because of an injury only. He never ducked anybody, he weighs constantly around 222lbs. 4. "His coach sucks" Actually true but Atlas has at least championship experience. PLUS two further arguments: 1. Wlad looked bad against Chambers 2. Wlad has talked about Haye (a bum), not Povetkin.
I've followed Povetkin since he made his pro debut, and no doubt Povetkin is a good fighter, solid all round. His style is not right to beat either Klitschko though atsch Wlad looked great against Chambers, a guy who gave Povetkin a very close fight. At best, Chambers may have taken 1 round off Wlad Haye is certainly no bum
I thought they were all good points until I read that you think Haye is a bum? Have you ANY idea of his boxing history? Well, don't answer that because you clearly know **** all If you think Haye is a bum.
No one here hates Povetkin, they just hate the fact that he's constantly delaying a fight against Wladimir, I think the delay is legitimate, but two years is long enough.
No he outworked Chambers, he didn't even pound him, Chambers won at least the first four rounds, and wasn't even close to being knocked out. Had Chambers had the motivation and desire, he could of won that fight, because Povetkin was so OPEN to counters.
How come know one is talking about what Manny stu. said about Wlads. greatness and how he said he was the best and most powerful fighter he has ever trained better than Lewis right from manny's mouth
It has more to do with the heavyweight division than Povetkin to be honest. People have taken quite a lot of contenders seriously in the last few years and the results were all so horrible that the majority lost hope, just take a look at how most of these guys are badly out of shape and inconsistent. This might not have anything to do with Povetkin but that's how the heavyweight division is looked at for logical reasons.
Wlad looked pretty good vs Chambers and completely dominated him. It's not about motivation and desire. Chambers isn't some veteran, he's a young hungry fighter and that fight was a heavyweight title eliminator, what more could a HW possibly want to be motivated? Chambers was just overwhelmed by Povetkin's pressure and stopped throwing midway through the fight. And if you ask me that was a shame, because as you said in the earlier rounds Chambers showed he could land whenever he wanted to.
Nobody hates Povetkin, it's just that some of us are blessed with the gift of eyesight. And in Povetkin, we can see a guy who doesn't move his head, lacks power, goes foward in straight lines, lacks mobility, stands straight up, stands right in front of his opponent, is easy to hit, and hasn't fought anybody aside from Chambers who wasn't at his optimal weight and isn't simply isn't very good either. Povetkin is fortunate enough to be a heavyweight in this particular era where there are very few boxers that can actually fight. His win against Chambers is overrated because Chambers, who doesn't move his head either, and plays the same "put your high guard up, you punch, I punch," game that Povetkin plays, lacks power, is tenative, and doesn't know how to put together combinations. Povetkin basically beat Chambers on stamina and his ability to absorb punches. Put Povetkin in against Peter who is a terrible boxer, and he probably gets knocked out.
You want to know how to beat Klitschko as a smaller man? Here are two examples, but there are other ways depending on who's fighting him. Did Chambers have a realistic chance? Probably not, but that's because Chambers lacks the physical attributes necessary to beat Wlad. Still though, if he was a bit more determined and actually knew how to box, he could have done better and even won some rounds. Unfortunately, he doesn't. First.... Louis was outweight by 65 lbs... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ovh8VkTxYI[/ame] Compare that to this...garbagesque effort by Chambers. Notice that Klitschko is just about an exact replica of Carnera. Carnera would have been champ in this era too. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0gseI4i9Wc[/ame] And now, here is Tyson vs Tucker who isn't as strong as Klitschko is but in his prime as seen here, is faster, just about the same height, has a very good chin, throws a larger variety of punches, and is a more fluid mover. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4VwCMAJ2zE[/ame] And compare this to Chagaev which is laughable, but some people on this site consider Chagaev to be a great fighter and compared him to Tyson. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7lcu3BvGso[/ame] Given those two example, try n tell me that Povetkin is a good heavyweight. The man would be destroyed by Klitschko. He wouldn't win one damn round.
