I don't understand why Hopkins wants Calzaghe do badly.

On ESPN FNF, he clearly stated that Calzaghe was the fight he wanted. He was even willing to go to Wales if the contract was right.

Having said that, i really wonder why Hopkins wants Calzaghe again. I know he's a confident guy but his performance in the first fight really turned off a lot of people. And game plan wise, i wonder what he can do differently to outpoint Calzaghe. He might try to be busier but no one outworks Calzaghe. It's just a bad matchup for Hopkins style wise. Do you guys think it's just the big pay day? Or does he think he can really win? If so, what will he change in his game plan?

Hopkins want Calzaghe because Calzaghe has a win on his record that rightfully belongs to B-Hop.

I agree with what you were saying, its something I've said a few times now. What can Hopkins do differently?

Say this fight did happen again, it is in Wales. Joe Calzaghe is not going to give up everything in the contract in favour of Hopkins, he already did that once. Calzaghe got the W, so the onus is in Hop to take the short straw. That means welcome to Wales, Bernard.

You are not getting a decision by fighting the same fight. The crowd cheers every damn thing Calzaghe does. Calzaghe is the aggressor. Hopkins has to do something much clearer, how can he do that against such an active fighter? If Hopkins could have done something, he would have done it first time. He's smart enough and experienced enough. He just couldn't do it. He has to spread himself thin to last against the activity of Calzaghe, he has to hold to take breaks.

    He can't win, period.

He knows that Calzaghe is going to retire, and there's no chance of him getting a re-match, so he's going to keep talking about it like he actually wants the match knowing it isn't likely to bite him on the ass later. If he wanted Calzaghe so badly why didn't he try doing some actual fighting in the last 5 rounds of their fight?

Yeah, that could be. But Hopkins is obssessed about his legacy. I find it hard to believe that he would take a fight knowing he will probably lose a UD just for a huge pay day.

It would be better for him to take less money and fight someone good but very winnable which can enhance his legacy. Adamek would be huge for his legacy. So would Kessler. Revenging Taylor would also.

It's simple. Because he thinks that he got robbed. Plus he said that he would never lose to a white boy so im sure that loss really bugs him.

I genuinely think Hopkins regrets pacing himself. I think if he knocked Calzaghe down again in the first round, he'd jump on him and try and stop it there and then. I'm convinced he knew he blew it by about the 9th round by faking low blows and trying all ways to get a point deducted.

considering he got a sd loss with virtually no work rate, he knows he can beat him w/ a little less defense and a little more risk taking. plus the money will be there

The money can tie in with the legacy here; there isn't a bigger fight out there for him (legacy or money wise); I see your point with the styles, but Hopkins is a very smart fighter; maybe he thinks there are adjustments he can make in a 2nd contest that will give him the win. Plus, half the guys on here thought he won the first fight (not me); Hopkins probably thought he won as well; he wouldn't see it as an impossible ask.

Fighting in Wales and opening up a lot more would only hand ALL the advantages back in Calzaghe's direction.

    I'd agree with you there.

But in Hopkins' mind he may feel differently or he may have something else up his sleeve (what that might be I have no idea).
