I don't understand why Hopkins wants Calzaghe do badly.

:rofl Well a white boy did beat him & make him look very bad. He's a poor actor with those low blows and maybe he wants a sequel?

P4p & I disagree on a lot here but he's still a more credible adversary than you'd ever be.

Hopkins was brilliant against Pavlik, but Pavlik was tailor made for him. Calzaghe's intensity and work rate is a lot higher than Pav's. Hopkins would gas out exactly like he did in the first fight. It was a joke that Hopkins even got a sd.

  5. Hop didn't look bad in that fight .. he looked old and not in great shape. JC's technique gave the obvious impression of a near-amateur however. Combine Joe's will and stamina with elite athleticism and you'd have some fighter. Unfortunately, Joe doesn't have anything close to that.

Hopkins had his chance and blew it by backpeddling, holding and feigning injury for 12rounds. Who wants to see a rematch of that?

I feel that if this rematch were to take place Calzaghe would win by a bigger margin. I'll explain why:

    - Calzaghe was fighting for the first time at LHW. In America. With American judges, and an American ref.

Calzaghe went out of his comfort zone. We all know fighters make excuses if they dont put up their best performance, and it's all speculation, but I believe Calzaghe when he said he underrated Hopkins and didn't perform to the best of his ability- It was in his speech leading up to the fight i.e., 'old man popkins' 'hopkins is old, can't keep up the pace' etc. Given all the variables that I mentioned above, and the fact Bernard WAS past the age of 40, and given Calzaghe's speed/work rate, I feel Calzaghe didn't prepare to the best of his ability and underrated Hopkins as being a major threat........

I hold this view because of the Jones fight: Calzaghe seemed to have more intensity to him leading up to the fight and on the night - and his body looked more refined/in better shape, and he was lighter on his feet, and got his punches off faster; yeah, I know part of the reason is because Hopkins is defensive minded/a master boxing tactician, but all around, Calzaghe was faster/better prepared (IMO) for Jones after what happened in Vegas 6 months earlier.

A rematch, as already mentioned in this thread, would be in Wales in front of 50+ thousand spectators, Joe Cortez would NOT be the ref (highly unlikely the ref involved would put up with all the spoiling tactics, etc) and anything short of Hopkins knocking Calzaghe out? He wouldn't get a decision in Wales......not to mention Joe is better adjusted to the weight. Every conceivable advantage would be in Calzaghe's favor.

Some mention Hopkins' last opponent: Great performance against Kelly Pavlik- in dominating Kelly the way he did, he has shown he is not completely shot and still has a lot in the tank (against the right type of opponent). But, if Hopkins fought Calzaghe like he did Pavlik, and actually opened up without going into a defensive shell, he would get beaten even more decisively.

    IMO.
