After watching jared anderson vs Charles martin, man what an awful times to be a fan of hw boxing. Those guys throw all predictable punches they don't know how to fight inside , Charles martin looked like a stationary sack of potatoes with the chin in the air asking to get knocked out and even with that jared anderson couldn't put this guy out

Heavyweight boxing in particular has always had guys who were unpolished or just brutes with no real skill.

You’ll certainly see more top guys with basics at and near the top in the days of the 190- and 180-pound heavyweights, but many of them would be overpowered by today’s less skilled giants.

You also had guys like Tommy Jackson throwing double uppercuts (not like two right uppercuts in a row, but throwing uppercuts with both hands at the same time). And people from that era (where many top guys had real skill) would tell you the game was in decline and how it was a bad period all around.

    Nostalgia uber alles.

Not having to make weight doesn’t help. A fee to many Big Macs and relying on size and weight. Guys like Ali and Norton to pride in how close(ish) they were to a certain weight limit. Naturally being heavyweight they weren’t that restricted in terms of diet etc. Now they want to break the weighing scales.

    That's what's done it, mate.
The size of some of the big guys nowadays, that's why i hardly watch heavyweight now xx

Oh yeh just remembered. Didn’t Tony Tubbs get a hundred thousand US dollars incentive to come in a certain weight against Tyson? Why not do it the other way round. If no weight limit for heavyweight fine the fat slobs for coming in over a specific limit out of their purse as agreed in pre fight contracts.

Boxing is somewhat of a niche sport. And now these days super heavyweights are recruited more then before. There are a lot of smaller gyms in boxing with not that many members, with 1 giant. The giant boxer can win without having to learn as many skills. He has a longer reach, stronger with maybe more power and chin. The problem is when they start encountering other super heavyweights they often don’t know what to do with someone as big as them because they have not spared with big bodies much.

I have seen similar things in other sports.

It’s a stretch to even call them contenders though. Gatekeeper v. Work In Progress.

This would be the best ever heavyweight division if the guys with talent were consistently fighting each other. It’s a deep division.

I wouldn’t say it would b the best but it’s def a better division now than 15 years ago. The problem is no one fights each other so you’ll never know how good it could have been….making it a bad era (with a ton of upside).
    Give me
    Fury v Usyk
    Fury v AJ
    Usyk v Wilder
    Usyk v Ruiz
    Wilder v Ruiz
    Wilder v AJ
Are all good match ups that no one can seem to make. Now Wilder n AJ r on the decline and Usyk b Fury aren’t far behind. Where will the division go from there?
