I doubt Floyd/Guerrero can break 1.1 Milliong PPV....

For instance, HBO's 24/7 apparently costs about 5 million to produce :nut and they were doing about 3 or 4 annually. Showtime has less to work with, at a risk of course, but less regardless.

 

Well, the AFL would be in some trouble if they paid a player NFL money, because they don't generate the same revenue. I read somewhere that just to break even, Showtime needs an amount of buys that'd be a profit for HBO.

 

Showtime gets half off the top regardless just for showing the fight, and Floyd's revenues are ridiculous numbers. Why are people underestimating fight week in Vegas!?

 

I'm not. I think it will do great numbers, but Showtime has a lot more pressure to do good than HBO would if they were hosting this fight. It will do great numbers, but not as well as it would do on HBO.

 

I think his point is that the fight has less exposure because the "All Access" shows are watched by less people than the "24/7" shows.

 

Why do people bring up the ortiz fight numbers? those are fake.

 

Of course not, it will do well, considering boxing's budgeting. HBO has a small boxing budget don't forget.

 

FWIW, I know "The Ghost" doesn't have a huge following- but plenty of Mexicans will still buy the fight because he's an American of Mexican descent. Also, the Ponce/Abner fight isn't exactly peanuts.

I'm guessing they'll hit 1.3 million.

 

Showtime looks like they let a bunch of undergrads produce their boxing. It looks horrible, compared to HBO. Even the angles during the actual fight aren't as good as HBO.

 

That's because HBO pays more than 5 million in production costs.

 

Then again it doesn't matter what the fight will do, we will just get a made up figure thrown at us from gbp and showtime.

 

Yeah, but even 24/7 has lost appeal. I get that HBO has more subscribers that can watch 24/7 but a huge majority of those watching them are the ones looking to and not coming across it by accident and then making the dec. to order the fight. This fight will be promoted heavily on Network TV this coming week.

 

Every Mayweather fight from here on out will do over a mil.

The fight is gaining a bit of hype. Getting promoted on ESPN and other networks. Had a few guys discussing it in my Investment class yesterday.
