Dougie, I failed to post my guy [Firpo] was never a champion, so that eliminates your man Tony Zale. Sorry Doug, but to make amends to you, i am sending you a signed copy of Lady Ga Ga's latest book titled, " My brother was an only child ".:patsch:patsch

Floyd Johnson also fits. He fought Willard on the same card as when Firpo fought McAuliffe and fought McAuliffe on the same card Firpo fought Willard.

Then again, Jack McAuliffe II also fits.

Tiny Jim Herman fought on both cards as well.

Henry that is great. today I am so upset because out of hundreds of main events I have seen,I just happened to save ONE ticket stub of the second RaY Robinson vs Randy Turpin,Sept 12,1951 at the old Polo Grounds. Every other ticket stub, i would toss on the floor after passing through the turnstyles.
Even the memorable Clay/ Frazer bout at MSG,May 8,1971, I discarded.
What did George Bernard Shaw say ? "it is a pity that youth is wasted on the young" . And so with me H.:good

Thanks mr bienstock, I only wish there was a cash prize..:yep

Just goes to show how highly firpo was regarded back then. Mr dempsey beat a good fighter who knowledgable fans really bought into.

The Guinness Book of World Records recorded 140,000 for the Pabst Brewing Company sponsored Zale-Pryor freebie in Milwaukee. Whichever figure is more accurate, it was of course also the largest live audience referee Dempsey also performed in front of.

didnt Firpo vs Wills also draw about 80,000 or so people?

Just thinking, surely that would make Firpo the biggest draw in boxing history, who didnt hold a world championship, wouldnt it?
