Who would win...Bernard Hopkins or Roy Jones? I'd say Bernard Hopkins to be honest even though I'm a huuuge RJJ fan. Hopkins has dominated all levels of competition (even at his old age) and was impressive vs calzaghe (even though it was a boring fight) IMO. Ok then, well does RJJ matchup better vs calzaghe then hopkins? That's the question. RJJ's speed and cat-like instincts will be the decider in the fight; Are they still there? If they are to a great extent, I think he could win this fight. But if not, it does not matter how fit he is IMO.
I feel if they had a rematch it would look their first fight together. Yeah, the question is how'll he comes in to fight.
Good point, im not sure Jones will follow up. Maybe he will be just too satisfied with landing his right hand clean from time to time.
the reason calzaghe will win is because he has one of the best adaptation in the ring. as good as jones is, there is no way he is better than hopkins at this time while having a style that suites calzaghe more.
Superman returns :bbb I hope Jones will win, I believe Jones can win, I want Jones to win and when dust settles Jones hand will be raised
Calzaghe should get the SD - unless he gets caught by a big right hand, which, as the Hopkins fight shows, is not out of the question. Calzaghe will hit the canvas at least once, imho. Whether he stays down is another story.
roy's legs are shot to ****. he is a stationary target with **** poor stamina. he's going to get mashed.
Both will have built in excuses to lose the fight...AGE. But If Roy can put the past of "Tarver & Johnson" behind him and let his hand's go ala The second Griffin fight. I give him a better than great chance. (When he decided to throw Vs. Trinidad, IMO Roy took a Hagler vs. Duran mentality in to the ring that night, Jones respected Trinidad's Punching Power and did not open up as much as he could, I think he still has more than he showed in his last fight.)
I think Jones can cause Calzaghe alot of problems but he won't win the fight. Jones still has the speed and power, but he doesn't have the legs anymore. These days he takes rounds off and spends alot of time on the ropes, Calzaghe is busy for 3 minutes every round for 12 rounds. I think Calzaghe outworks him to a decision.
FFS you loons this isn't a a blown up WW or fringe contenders like Hanshaw or that Prince fellow... This is Joe Calzaghe! P4P # 2 and recent victor over Bernard Hopkins and Mikkel Kessler... the last time Jones did anything worth a damn was in beating Tarver the first time back in 2003...have ya'll forgot the 3 losses that have occured since then? Jones cannot move the same as he once could, he fights only in spurts and his chin has been exposed as being mediocre at best (we never knew this before because he was so damn quick). He lacks the funadmentals to adapt his game as he physically declines unlike someone like Hopkins. He is up against a younger, undefeated man coming off of two of the most signficant wins of his career...a guy who will press him every minute, a guy that will hunt him down and outwork him. Jones chances are slim and none in this one. It's just a nice send off fight for Joe: nothing more, nothing less.
They say that all great fighters can have one great fight left in them. You make some good points (though I don't agree with all of them). My concern is Joe's workrate. With Roy's KO losses he may panick when he has a lot of punches coming at him and go intoa defensive shell. If he is willing to get hit by joes shots which shouldn't do too much damage he definatly has a chance.
