Sorry guys he's certainly highly skilled but when I watch him I see flaws; big ones. The most striking is that he hits very hard and very fast but has little upper body movement therefore his offence is his defence which begs the question does anyone in the super 6 have the ability to take advantage of that? Thoughts?
It's one of those situations where his detractors overstate what he can't/doesn't do effectively, and in turn his supporters overstate what he can/does. More or less occurs with all high profile fighters. In Kessler's case it's just more cut and dry than usual in terms of identifying his strengths and weaknesses.
Yeah. I have to state though guys I'm not ripping into him - I really like him - I'm just throwing out here my views ok so don't take this as a hate thread k?
He's talented and a good overall fundamentally skilled fighter, but he's also very stiff an somewhat basic in his attack. That's why a guy like Calzaghe who is more fluid and less tied down to traditional boxing was able to beat him. Having said I still think Kessler is the clear favorite in this upcoming tournament because he's simply the best fighter out of the bunch IMO.
Although I personally disagree I think it's a fair call. Hard to say either way as he's only lost once (to an ATG) but hasn't beaten anyone of real substance either. This tournamnet should reveal all one way or another!!!
winky has little head movement and he is a great operator. high guard is the way for kess. strong 1-2's with a left uppercut when it's needed it's almo.....oh **** it this thread is boring tyson ko1
How Would I say this. Mikkel Kessler is typical Euro Style boxer, simple as that. It looks kinda robotic, yes. How would you think fight between :loveCarl Froch and Kessler would go?:huh:yep
Thing is you have to watch all his fights vs. The Ring top ranked fighters because Calzaghe and Hopkins type of fights are usually useless to judge a fighter properly, they are just too damn awkward... and good. Siaca, Mundine, Beyer, Andrade, Calzaghe - watch all of these fights and you'll get a great picture of his advantages and disadvantages.
Kessler is a solid all round fighter his technique is pretty polished, Granted he can be static at times which is why a fighter of Calzaghes calibre took advantage of that. I'd have said Kessler by way of decision over your boy Froch but after Taylor put a dent in his chin I'm pretty sure Kessler will KO him.
Kessler seemed a bit reseved against Calzaghe. He looked tentative to follow up. He threw alot of single shots, if he'd put combinations in after the uppercut he kept landing it could have been a diffrent fight, I don't think he'd make the mistake twice.
Everyone says he's robotic and predictable, but he's clearly a smart guy if you listen to him. He stated after the first fight that he would significantly change his gameplan, put his head together with his trainers' and figure out how to solve Joe's puzzle (and may have in so doing screwed the pooch - had he not let on that he was keen on varying his approach Joe may have been more receptive to a rematch under the auspice of "more of the same"). As it is he surprised and hurt Joe a few times (this was the arrival of the uppercut as a key weapon in Mikkel's arsenal, which probably wasn't in Enzo's scouting report). Prepared and experienced by that defeat, confident and determined to avenge it, and spurred by his momentary successes, I feel very strongly that Kessler would have taken it. He should have just kept his damn mouth shut and played stupid, like "derrrr, I land more jab next time and Joe fall down".
Well Kessler hasn't done much to prove he's the #1 SMW, despite being rated as the #1 SMW. All these new talents coming up, and Kessler still hasn't done ****.
