It's funny you bring this up because I sparred a really green fighter yesterday from another gym, he was pretty arrogant so my coach wanted my to punish him but after i hit him with the first overhand right I was like oh **** I could really end up hurting this guy (not to brag) so I eased up for the rest of the round and my coach gets mad at me sometimes because I show too much compassion to lesser fighters. He wants me to be vicious but I feel bad so I end up taking it light. So as NVSemin eluded to earlier if you go too hard you're a dick, if you show compassion you're a ***** lol you can't win. Also sparring female fighters is horrible for the same reasons you dont want to get beat up by a girl but you don't want to look like a really dick teeing off on her either haha

Yeah, sparring with a girl is something else entirely.
One of my sparring partners is a girl, and she's much better than me skill wise - she's a pro.
But we even out nicely, cuz I have a size/reach advantage - and obviously i'm a guy.
So I can't go too hard - for obvious reasons.
But if I go too easy - it might be an insult to her.
I constantly have to check myself to try and stay within this middle range where we're both keeping it technical, and not turning it into a war.
I don't hit her with power shots on purpose - but as smaller fighters though, the action can get quite fast n' furious and I sometimes catch her with a hard shot by mistake.

I've only sparred a girl once for a few rounds and found it fine. I suppose it would be different if she was bigger, or more skilled.

Personally I'd rather be seen losing a spar than beating someone up for no reason. If your having a hard spar then **** it thats what its about but if not that kind of **** winds me up.

I just work on my defense when sparring someone with a lower skill level. Maybe counter with VERY LIGHT punches to show him his flaws/openings.

As for sparring with girls goes; I sparred 3 girls before and it's always hard to find the line between going too light (and possibly insulting them) and not holding back enough. I'm a heavyweight (220-ish) so most girls are like half my weight

I've been the inexperanced guy in with a guy with just a little bit of experance before. (see my post in the worst sparing experance thread). When you have two boxers at diffreint levels than each boxer's half effort isn't the same. The more experanced boxer might be going 50% and the newbe as much as 75%, but the 50% is greater than the 75%, because of the experance factor.
I herd a story that when they were czsting the part of Cluber Lang for Rocky III. They looked at a few real boxers. None of them were able to pull their punches. So they cast Mr.T who may have done some Toughman, but was not an experanced boxer.
What I'm trying to say is that with experance you devlope a musscal memory that won't alow you to completely let up in the ring.
