I actually feel bad for both of them. I though Golovkin won the close fight clearly no way could i dig a draw out of that. The "other card" well that actually made me laugh when it was read out. GGG has suffered an undeserved blemish on his record but thankfully the belts remain with him. For me though Canelo pulled out a magnificent performance beyond what i thought he could do, i have very much underestemated him as a fully fledged Middleweight and he did so much better than i thought against this particular opponent. That was a hell of a fight, the few times it wasnt exciting it was intruiging i loved it, no complaints about the reffereeing either. But to hear Canelo the proud Mexican get Bood in a room full of Mexicans after what he had just put his body on the line big time was a massive shame. Im sure the majority of the vocal complainers may not of been Mexican andI know what everybody was angry about and boo the cards all night long but personally i looked at Canelo in defeat like i looked at Klitchko after the Joshua fight. Everybody, including himself should be proud of the effort he put into that fight.
I dont think a draw is unfair, tbh. I understand that you think gg won, though. Most of the rounds are next to impossible to score, so much razor close. Quantity vs quality, really hard to score, and subjective as F. Draw? well, that's ok for me. Imho, canelo missed a wonderful oportunity, he could have won esily with a bit more of work. Any single round gg won was by sheer workrate, the better fighter was the ginger one, it's the workrate (the ginger didnt work enough) what made things even.
great post he looked like a beaten man before the cards got read great flashy punches even if he never really hurt golovkin and his upper body movement was incredible
Great post. That's how I watched it too. I predicted Golovkin, but I underrated Canelo and was super impressed that he did so well. Canelo did the cleaner, better quality work, just not consistently enough to win. He proved he has the skill and class to outduel the proven middleweight monster so much of the way and kept it a nip and tuck great fight, that lived up to the hype. He can build from his performance, pace himself better, and very well win a rematch. The outrage about the one card and that GGG deserved a close call detracts from an outstanding effort by Canelo.
I agree Canelo had the better quality work, but to be fair, I feel like Golovkin's way of fighting last night is a perfect exemple of what he was up against. I had the fight 116-112, I had no problem scoring the rounds and I kept telling my friends that if it went to the scorecards to expect them to hear "And new middleweight champion of the world....!". GGG could've been more composed, picked his shots better, and take way less shots that he did near the end, but he didn't respect Canelo's power and had to keep the pressure on him, find an opening and try to KO him. And for a 35 years old to keep constant pressure like that for 12 rounds ? Woah. Compared to Canelo who was fading and fighting in burst some rounds, his legs were gone near the end off the fight, and Canelo is 27 years old. At the end of the day, the deck was stack against GGG and everybody including him knew it. Canelo was very good, he landed beautiful power shots and made Golovkin miss a lot, but GGG kept leading him against the ropes and that was a big factor in the fight. Canelo landed close to nothing against the ropes. It was a hell of a fight really, it delivered and I tip my hat off to both guys, but GGG was the better man last night and after the bell Canelo knew it too.
How do you feel bad for Alvarez? He got a 118-110 scorecard. And this after ge got favorable scorecards vs. Trout, Mayweather, lara, and cotto. Alot of generosity has gone to CA.
