he was very unfortunate..i remember when Kevin Barry was chasing the big fight with Tyson after the Bruce Seldon bout. But Tua was a no-name contender at that time. Evander got the shot instead and he had tua help him prepare.. A 96 version of Tua vs that version of Mike?
Feeling sorry for Tua never managing to snatch up a belt is all well and fine, but if he seriously continues on with his delusional quest at this point he'll start rapidly becoming less sympathetic (and more just plain pathetic) a character...much like Holyfield.
A 96 Tyson was STILL too much for a 96 Tua. Tyson was still very quick and hard hitting indeed he despatched Bruno in much better style than in their first encounter. Make no mistake Evander Holyfield fought a decent enough version of Tyson, who still had speed and boxing skills......but Evander's boxing skill always was better than Tyson's. Tua probably wouldn't have lasted long against either Tyson or Holyfield back in 96 or he would have been thoroughly outboxed by both Tyson and Holyfield
I don't think he gets KOed, especially not by Holyfield. Its a 12 rounder unless Tua KO's one of them. Tua has a very good chin
I could still see Holyfield getting a TKO though.....too much boxing skill and speed for Tua to handle.
Seems like a decent enough bloke but I hardly feel bad for him. Tua made a good run of it and had a real cult following.
I don't feel sorry for him. He was given plenty of opportunity, I'd even go so far to say more then many, but blew it all. Made good money and blew that too.
At the end of the day, Tua at his best fell short of the very best at their best. Tua at his peak was embarrassingly well beaten by Lewis and easily out boxed by Bryd. The Ike Ibeabuchi match was a closer affair......but Tua still comes up short. Tua had the power and a decent chin.......but not really the boxing skills to match.
