I feel very confident on this - Carwin is going to KO Brock

Brock is an awesome powerhouse in terms of strength, but he doesn't seem to have equivalent KO power in his punches when he is standing up.

    Carwin most certainly does.

Brock seems to have decent whiskers as well, but both Couture and Mir have already shown that clean strikes can affect him, and neither man hits with anywhere near the insane power of Shane.

Brock is not a boxer, so I doubt his stand-up defence will be sound enough to ensure he doesn't absorb clean strikes any time the action is not on the ground.

On this basis, I think we are going to see the mother of all KNOCKOUTS when these two behemoths clash.

Of course Brock is a superb wrestler and will not be looking to fight Shane standing up, but is he going to be able to avoid stand-up for the full 5 rounds? I doubt it. Carwin's own wrestling and strength, and his natural toughness, are such that I can't see Brock pinning him down and hammering him out early.

Carwin by shocking KO is my pick.

    Thoughts? :bbb

Yeah I've been thinking the same thing recently. Carwin is a guy who I don't think will be bullied by Brock and he has dynamite in his fists, plus his excellent wrestling. Can't wait for the fight.

Hard fight to pick but its hard to imagine Carwin not landing and when he lands just a grazzing shot brutal things happen.

Two incredibly strong and incredibly powerful fighters. I think they can dent each others chin and slam the **** out of each other. 50-50 fight. Execution is key.

We are going to find out how good some chins are. We are going to find out just how strong they are. We are going to find out who has the better wrestling. We are going to find out a lot.

Genuine 50/50 fight. Both of these men are massive and both have the power to take each other out with one shot. Im favouring Carwin as he's striking is better. That said if it goes to the mat i think Brock may have the edge in wrestling skills. Very good matchup. Il be tuning in.

Let's not forget that Brock will surely be rusty, coming off a lay-off for injury. And he doesn't have a wealth of experience to draw on to ease his transition back into top level competition. I'd have thought Dana would have given him a fight as a tune-up/reintroduction, someone like Gonzaga or Crocop or Roy Nelson. It seems a really big ask to expect him to come straight back into a high pressure, high intensity title defence against the top contender. But hey, big big credit to Brock for being right up for it! Good on him.

My thoughts exactly. While I prefer the fact that the top fighters tend to face each other more often in MMA, I think they should take a leaf out of boxings book here and give Brock a warm up fight. This was no normal situation that he is returning from, it sounded like he was nearly dead. From what I have heard it would have been incredibly draining. If Lesnar looks poor there will be plenty of scope for excuses...most of them valid I believe.

I don't think it's fair to say that we are going to find out "How good Lesnar's chin is" in this fight. Shane Carwin can probably KO anyone on the planet if he connects. Even if he KTFO Lesnar it doesn't mean Lesnar has a bad chin.

The only thing we could find out chin wise about Lesnar in this fight is that Lesnar has a titanium jaw, if he is able to take Carwin's punches without going down. I think this is just about a toss up, though I would give the slight edge to Carwin. I think Carwin has a better chance of surviving, for instance, a round on the ground than Lesnar has surviving a round standing. No one really knows if Carwin has any stamina because he wins every fight so quickly but if Carwin doesn't gas Lesnar better be able to finish him on the ground because every second the fight goes on is another second that Carwin can KO Lesnar.

Lesnar doesn't have bad ground and pound but Herring was able to survive it and it took him a while to finish Mir. He better bring his A game if he doesn't want to get put out cold.

I am just anxious to see how Lesnar looks, period. It's going to be tough for him to be 100% after battling that medical problem, as well as this long layoff.

Shane has better striking but like brock he lacks in defense. Both guys are capable of ko each other on the feet and the ground.

my prediction is. both guys will exchange. one will push one to the fence and wrestle/dirty box a little . this will last till round 3, where I thnk Brock will have more stamina as Carwin has never gone the distance. Brock will either gnp a victory or out wrestle carwin for evry other round past 3.

    Brock SD or gnp 3-5

...though i did vote carwin would ko brock. anything is possible.

In my head this fight ends in round one. Brock Lesnar goes for takedowns from first bell and gets one, maybe even the first one. The size and power of Brock, combined with his wrestling ability and above all, the speed of his double leg, puts Shane Carwin on his back. Unlike Gabriel Gonzaga, Lesnar can secure the position and then controls Carwin, quite possibly up against the cage. Then Lesnar starts to pound on him, Carwin can't escape and sooner or later it ends in a TKO.

While Carwin was a Division II champion in wrestling, he's primarily a striker in mixed martial arts competition. Lesnar on the other hand has stuck with wrestling as his bread and butter - take them down and pound them out. Carwin's size will work against him if he's on his back, and against Brock he faces a top level wrestler, a better wrestler, for the first time. While Carwin has smashed top heavyweight grapplers before in Gonzaga and Frank Mir, neither man had anything like the takedown ability Brock possesses.

But so much could alter that. Maybe Carwin's wrestling is a lot better than I give him credit for and Lesnar can't take him down or control him. Maybe Lesnar performs badly due to his illness and ring rust. Maybe Lesnar chooses to stand with Carwin and slug it out.

Shane Carwin at 12-0 is still very much an unknown quantity. We may not have seen the full extent of his abilities, and we certainly haven't seen any major weaknesses.

As everyone says, it's an awesome fight.

I wasn't sure about Carwin until the Mir fight because he was really a 1 hit wonder with his Gonzaga ko but after watching him dispose of Mir in brutal fashion Brock now has a major threat. Carwin is one tap away from stunning a guy so he can't be counted out against anybody.

I think him fighting Mir was good and just hyped the Brock-Carwin fight even more because of how brutally he killed Mir.

I'm starting to think Carwin is the man to beat Brock as well. He has the size and strength to avoid being bullied by Lesnar. This will come down to sheer technique and force of will. If Carwin catches Brock he is going to put him to sleep. This is a very intriguing matchup.

Lesnar is a much better conditioned fighter. He should take few chances, extending the fight and proverbially drown Carwin late in the fight. I am very confident Lesnar wins this one. And I am rarely confident about much of anything in MMA.

Great keyword there when you say execution. IMO the guy who makes the first mistake could very well lose this fight. Look at it like this Lesnar and Carwin are both big powerful and dominant Championship Wrestlers and both guys have limited experience off their backs. I think if either one gets put on their backs it could be the beginning of the end. Both are so strong and hit so hard its hard to imagine either being comfertable in that situation and surviving the fight. Also standing up although Carwin appears to be the harder puncher dont forget Lesnar has proved in his short career that he has a devestating right hand as well. This could end in 1 punch IMO. Im very exicted to see what goes down July 3rd.
