Was there anything he DIDN'T try? Or do better in the first 6 rounds?
The first 5 round were a clinic, anyone else without a cast iron chin like Margarito, in my opinion, would have been at least shaken.

Those were some of Cotto's best rounds ever, if not his best.
I have a feeling he will never be able to show that again due to styles, but still, was excellent.

Margarito, on the other hand, just takes the ****. Not even any swelling after 6 rounds of being battered (I'm up to round 7 at this point).

That 7th round showed Cotto's heart to all the naysers that he quit and all that shite. That was a good survival round (he can even do that!), he even threw some excellent come-back shots!

Let's see the rest, will report in a bit. EXCELLENT fight.

he couldn't go to the body, that made a BIG difference because Margo's stamina was still like in 90% in rd 11.

The thing is that if Cotto had attack Margo's body he would get himself wide open and Margo's upper would have find a mark easier since Cotto is smaller.

I do think that the people who call him a quitter are just out of their minds.

Cotto should have done what Paul Williams did. He shouldn't have sat on any of his punches and just pit-patted him to a UD. He should have ran all around the ring and only stopped when he was about to clinch.

I really thought Cotto would follow this strategy. I posted months ago that if this came to a slugfest Margarito would win that contest. I thought Cotto had more ring smarts. But I guess he's simply a very proud fighter who didn't want to resort to Mayrunner tactics.

A La Mayweather.....this is how you beat a pressure fighter..... you out box him the way Cotto did in the beginning is how you finish....never trade:good

Cotto looked p4p in those 5 first rounds. He should just forget about MArgarito. Move on. He can beat any other WW.

If Cotto wanted to win, he should have clinched after every counter-punch(es).

Hitting Margarito alone is not enough to slow down his assault. As much of a clinic as most people seem to think Cotto put on, the constant pressure and body punching, while not always pretty, wore Cotto down. You can't be constantly on the defensive and stay energized without periodic clinching. It's difficult to breathe.

Once Cotto slowed, Margartio started connecting.

Machismo will get you knocked out when the other guy is stronger and tougher.

This is exactly why he lost, trying to be a big guy and trade instead of putting his pride aside and doing what it took to win, which may not be crowd pleasing but the most effective.

Cotto came in way too confident and didnt want it enough. Thats why he lost, he didnt have any other plans other than Box Margarito. Cotto will come back and the rematch will be even better.... this will end up being a trilogy

Who is the only WW that can beat Margarito? I know Floyd can, Williams did, I believe Cotto can (if he would just box), I think Clottey could as well (if his hands hold up).

Exactly, that's what Paul Williams did as well. But Cotto decided not to do that and try to give the fans something they like and in return he's being called a quitter.

following rounds, just saw up to the 11th.

Still feeling sorry for Cotto, Margarito is a damn tank, he's nailing him with solid stuff but it isn't enough, is it.

he seems a bit like a kid vs Margarito, Tony is just unfazed it seems!
Cotto give his all so far, he ran a bit in the 10th round but what was he supposed to do, stand and trade?

    Excellent fight.

This is getting difficult to watch, it's that sense of helplessness from Cotto, he's giving it his all, landing good combos now and then while being battered by Margarito but the dude just isn't giving him any space, that would ****ing terrify me.

    What an end, too.
which ****ing morons called Cotto a quitter, anyway? The corner waved it off and he finished on his feet, if you notice his legs were wobbly and he half slipped his right leg outwards and he fell over. He was getting massacred in the closing rounds, Margarito is a goddamn steam roller.

Good fight all round, closing feelings are elation for Margarito, kept the pressure up and it paid off. Feel sorry for Cotto, he tried his best, but wasn't enough vs Margarito, if it was ANYONE ELSE, I reckon they'd have cracked under those first 5 rounds. then again, it was styles, and I doubt he'd have landed as much clean punching as he did that night.
