As others have said, it was an amateur bout.

The threshold for a stoppage is a lot lower in the amateurs.

Even so, it was the final!

I may agree that Bowe had a good chance to beat Lewis in this window between 92-94. It's a maybe though. It's a toss up fight.
My problem is that the ball was in Bowe's corner. He had to go and prove that he wasn't the same fighter. He got in Lennox face ringside and told him 'i owe you one' then he told the world ' I'm gonna show you how to beat Lennox Lewis.'

I thought the way Lewis handled a keyed up Bowe unerved Riddick. Bowe trying to intimate Lewis but I think Lennox was ice cool and Bowe backing up as he was chirping .

The behavior of that referee is highly suspicious -especially given the surrounding context.

I've said many times that's perfectly clear to me that Bowe is intimidated and hiding it very poorly in the public confrontations I've seen between him and Lewis (I'm extremely confident in my ability to read people) but the footage here -or rather the performance of the referee- smells really, really fishy to me.

I can't believe I gonna type this but American boxers in general seem to get no mercy from the powers that run amatuer boxing.
I'm not over Jimmy Clark getting openly harassed by the referee the entire 3 rounds and still barely loses to Stevenson.

Nah. We got eyes. At their best Bowe was faster, hit as hard, had a better chin.

Bowe was never faster. He was more polished, had a better inside game. Lewis's right hand was more explosive then anything in Bowe's arsenal. Eddie Futch did a legendary job with Bowe.
Bowe's chin might have been a bit better but that could be debatable because he was done by 96.. Lewis's chin gets underated.
Those guys never fighting is one of the biggest disappointments in sports history.

Your right. I think Lewis had mini Razor Ruddock type chapter that he was able to snap out of. Lewis fell in love with that right cross that tore down Razor. He started to look for it to much without setting it up. He didn't develop his left hand enough until Manny came on.

Amateur rules have always differed from pros. There are countless videos on YouTube where an amateur fight is stopped that would not be stopped if it was a pro fight. This is just one example of many.

I don't see this fight having any bearing on what would have happened if Bowe and Lewis had fought in the pros in 92-94.

I don't think so either. To me, judging by the performances of those two during that time period, Bowe would have caught Lewis quicker than either McCall or Hasim.

If Lewis couldn't take punches from the last two mentioned...Bowe was a significantly stronger puncher, with a better jab (even when Lewis hooked up with Steward his jab, though vastly improved, wasn't Bowe's).

Both in their prime Lewis stops Bowe. Lewis the far better, focused fighter. Lewis was in fact an ATG. Bowe something less.

That is interesting. If Bowe is able to win the battle of jabs then he's got the key to winning the fight. He would need to be mindful of that missle coming over it though. One lazy moment changes the fight.
He would have to be focused and sharp mentally. I'm sure Eddie was down in the lab with a helluva game plan. Damn shame it never played out.

It's like the Cowboys and the Bills each made the Super Bowl and never played it. There would be people arguing to this day that Buffalo was too good for them.
A boxing fan suffers in their own unique hell .
