I Floyd beats Canelo he will be fighter of the year

Rigondeaux will not lose out on FOTY because he is not popular. He's going to lose because beating Donaire does not jump him over some one who beats Guerrero for The Ring title and Canelo for The Ring title. It doesn't matter what WW does that, no matter who does that, would win the FOTY. In this case it is a popular fighter in Floyd Mayweather. But any one who can accomplish such a feat gets the FOTY.

There's no second win that Rigondeaux can get, to jump him over what Floyd will potentially do. Not even Mares. If GR wants to even compete with that, he'd have to fight two more times this year against a Darchinyan caliber fighter and then fight the winner of Garcia-Lopez at least at 124 CW at the end of the year. Otherwise beating Donaire and some guy like Terrazas or Mijares just doesn't cut it. It doesn't matter if he was the Oscar De La Hoya of Super Bantamweight in popularity, what Floyd is doing is only rivaled by his opponent himself, Canelo Alvarez.

 

Unless Rigo fights a top 5 opponent in his division or at a different one, up or down, I don't think he will deserve it over Floyd.

Obviously, this depends on if and very importantly, how Mayweather beats Alvarez.

If Froch rematches Ward and wins he would win it.

If Garcia beats Lopez, then fights Rigondeuax the winner of that will have had a better year than Mayweather.

If Matthysee beats Garcia in Sept then Khan in December, he's also in with a shout.

 

Hmmmmm not so sure, my bias would give it to Floyd cause I know Floyd would be more pleasing to watch beating Guerrero and Canelo than Hopkins looked in beating Cloud and will look in beat Froch and Murat.

 

True. It'd have to be Rigondeaux beating Mares to prevent Mayweather from getting the FOTY. If Canelo wins, though, it's his and there isn't anything anybody could do about it.
