I for one am quite distraught at Williams destruction

Hopefully Paul will begin to understand the importance of defense, strategy, and ring intelligence. He's damn good at what he does, but he needs to abandon that "spray and pray" style, and learn to use his physical attributes to his advantage. Martinez has about a 55% KO ratio. What if Pdub had actually stepped in the ring with someone like Pavlik or Abraham? Think about that one!

Sergio Martinez was stopped at one point in his career and came back as a better fighter, so did Rafael Marquez and Manny Pacquiao. PDub will be back, he doesn't have bad habits and has the right mentality, just needs to work on his technique in the gym. I say Jeff Mayweather is his man.

I like Williams... but it was obvious to me that he would loose this fight.
(I didn't picture an early crushing KO, but a Martinez stoppage win was an EASY pic imo)

I think Paul can still cause problems for most guys at 154, (and especially at 147 if he can get back down there comfortably)

He should hire his HBO cheerleader Manny Steward to teach him how to use his size advantages more effectively. (ie. Don't just fall in and leave that chin hanging out there right in the shorter man's wheel-house) :dead

Williams just has that imposing figure. He's a good boxer but not great and has a great personality.

I hope he can earn a high paying fight win or lose before he leaves.

come on.. Williams can't box **** and is a PR product of his manager, adviser and HBO. I for once I'm glad for the outcome last night as there is justice and it will come sooner or later.

I'm sorry though for the Williams who, despite having arguably the most despising team of advisers, seems to be a fine young man.

I wish he would change trainers and learn some skills. Punches in bunches will bring you only that far...

Against Abraham, Williams could have ended up in the morgue.

Against Pavlik he probably wins the fight and at worst loses on points.

Pavlik is either an alcoholic or is shot, but he is no longer a force at middleweight and I don't think he ever will be again.

After the surprise of it happening, I was genuinely gutted aswell. Paul's an exciting fighter and a topy guy aswell, he's not one to make excuses. I hope he can bounce back from this, but that isn't possible with his current trainers. He needs change.

The first thing that went through my mind when the Ko came was Paul's boxing career ended instantly.

The reason i say this is Paul's chin seems to have been shattered and he can't hold a good punch anymore.

You don't see that kind of reaction to a KO every week (maybe once a year ?)

Paul aborbed similar shots from Matthysse and Quintana without bulging but now is getting blasted to the canvas for entire minutes.

It's too late for him to change his style.
I predict him to get kod a few more times and pack it in (and i've received a lot of abuse for it).

Williams was an action fighter and I enjoyed watching him. But I always suspected he'd leave himself open for this kind of thing. His technique was never that clean. I didn't necessarily think it would come in this fight, and I certainly wasn't expecting it to be this early in the fight.

I agree with this. I think he's finished, people may not want to hear it but that KO was devastating. It's so eerily similiar to the Tarver KO of Jones, except Jones slammed the back of his head, here Williams hits face first and is out for minutes. He'll be KO'ed easier now, especially by any big punchers. I never thought he took punches very well, his head always snapping around. I think his head will snap off permanently if he is not careful now.

Williams is not a particularly athletic fighter. Martinez is a much better athlete than Williams. Williams won on volume, guts, stamina. He's never looked particularly coordinated or athletic for a champion fighter.

His career wouldnt have been long anyway becasue of his fighting style. If he could ever learn to fight TALL then maybe he would have a longer more successful career, but lets face it he's not Tommy Hearns. He loves to BRAWL, and you dont wanna take that from him because that Killer Instinct will benefit him in the long run ( see Manny Pacquiao ). I would love to see him with a trainer like Freddie Roach that I think would 180 his career. It is however unlikely, so the road to recovery fight tune-ups, regain confidence and fix your face against Maravilla.

    Right. He's too slow.
